UNESCO Conference at Kent State To Feature Evans and Slosson
Kent State hosts its second UNESCO conference on May 7 with Dr. Luther H. Evans and Dr. Preston W. Slosson as principal speakers. The event draws 500 delegates and includes art, architecture, and map displays, plus a gallery session with 25 foreign students answering questions about their countries. Countries represented include Iran, Peru, Syria, and Norway.

Thirdquarter sophomores to take written composition test
Third quarter sophomores must take an achievement test in written composition on Monday May 16. Students will be notified of time and place. Two Saved In Lake Search
A Kent State University student Robert S. Allyn 22 and companion Lawrence T. Murphy 21 Cleveland residents spent 29 hours on a disabled 16 foot outboard motor boat in Lake Erie. They were rescued eight miles off Fairport Harbor late Monday night by the Coast Guard after an engine failure amid an intensive search by Coast Guard Air Force and private craft.

Bowmans Welcome Faculty At Sunday Reception
Dr and Mrs George A Bowman hosted about 250 faculty members at their home on Sunday afternoon from 4 to 7. The event honored the 1948 49 additions to the faculty with help from Faculty Wives and Faculty Women's clubs and wives of the deans. In the photo the Bowmans greet Capt and Mrs C E Schade at the doorway. The captain is an assistant professor of military science and tactics at the university.

Cleveland Play House Presents Inspector Calls Here in May
The Cleveland Playhouse will stage An Inspector Calls at the university auditorium on May 9 at 8 15 pm. The performance is free and open to the public with no reserved seats. Written by J B Priestley the imported costume play is set in 1912 and centers on a mysterious death.

WAA Play Day Hosted by 35 Schools in May
Thirty five Ohio high schools accepted invitations to attend WAA Play Day on May 1. Two hundred three participants including 182 girls and 35 instructors will compete in softball basketball volleyball and relays. An alternate rain program, lunch, and noon entertainment are planned. The Sharks club will perform synchronized swimming with other demonstrations and awards will go to top scoring teams. Nancianne Martin and Libby Robinson co chair the event.

The KSU Ameri can Newspaper guild chapter at the university is the nation’s largest with 75 members. Organized in 1947 it started with 20 charter members under first president Bob Hoyt. It has hosted journalism figures like Louis Seltzer Matt Hall Kenny Spriegle and Kenny Nichols. A guest speaker program and social events continue with a May 6 party planned. Bill Kalaher is vice president Gloria Sherrets secretary and Bob Burdock treasurer.
