Ruth Greenwood and Bill Guisewite won the titles of Most Popular woman and man in a campus election. A total of 720 counted ballots followed 729 votes cast with nine invalid ballots.
A board meeting held yesterday afternoon was postponed while awaiting word from army air force commanders. Four hundred fourteen women in university dormitories may move off campus by quarter end, with housing outreach by Phyllis Pearson and Mary L. Smallwood to Kent townspeople. Maxwell Field telegram decision ends weeks of indecision after initial university facility probe. The air corps had opened talks to assign about 250 cadets by March 1 and another 250 by April 1.
Campus drive for the World Student Service Fund nears its $300 goal as total contributions exceed $200. Groups contributing include Wesley Foundation 10 dollars, YMCA 32, Beta Gamma 20, Alpha Omega 15, Lutheran Student Association 10.25, faculty 87.25, and student body 75.15. A donation booth is open at the Willes Gym entrance for further pledges.
Tryouts for the Radio workshop's Tuesday broadcast on WADC will be at 3 p.m. in the workshop.
The Student council proposes amendments to governance committees including how faculty representatives are chosen and the consolidation of social events and calendar committees. Nominations for publications policy editors and business managers go to the university president for appointment. The finance committee would add the athletic director and a student member.
The notice asks the person who took the Kent Stater file containing all editions to return it to the Stater office immediately. It promises no reward but safety from molestation and warns of bloodhounds being used if not returned.
Certificates of merit will be awarded to winning schools and debate teams and extemporaneous speaking winners at the Student Forensic invitational tournament opening tomorrow. Four rounds start 10 30 a m and later 1 p m 2 30 p m and 4 p m, with rounds in extemporaneous speaking at intermediate hours and nine schools from Illinois Pennsylvania and Ohio entered.
All charter members of Omega Mu Alpha honorary radio fraternity are asked to attend a 3 to 6 pm vote today at the radio workshop for the club’s future officers Frances Allen president announced yesterday.
Sixteen senior men in the naval V-7 program at the University will be called to active duty April 29. Some will graduate March 20, others after March 20 depending on accelerated coursework. Names include Clyde Carson Ed Christian Dick Clark Elgie Dinsmore Dave Edgerton Joe Fortunato Harlan Hatch and 14 others.
Registrar E C Stopher announced there will be no pre registration for the next quarter due to details to be cleared about army cadet classes. All students will register Monday March 29 to allow time to arrange classes and print schedules.
Seniors map Class Day events for Friday March 19 led by Betty Chapman as chair. The program includes an all senior convocation at 10 a m in the University auditorium, a rehearsal at 11 a m, informal banquet at Kent Methodist church at 7 p m, and a formal dance in Moulton hall at 10 p m. Academic procession starts at 9 40 a m Saturday in Wills gym before commencement at 10 in the auditorium. Only dues paying seniors admitted to banquet and dance.
Mrs. N. N. Puckett from Flora Stone Mather college addressed about fifty attendees outlining AWVS aims of patriotism peace and public service. She noted the non political and non racial nature of the group and its self funding. Dr Frances Harshbarger announced an Auto Mechanics course returning next quarter and efforts to add an International Code course. Margaret Lewis was elected temporary chairman of the new University group.
A 10 week gardening course for townspeople will be offered by the university every Monday at 7 30 p m starting March 15. Instructors include several biology department members led by Dr Charles B Sumner assistant professor of biology.
