Norman Cousins author editor of the Saturday Review will speak at the KSU auditorium Wednesday evening July 9 at 8 15. The noted editorials have made him a widely quoted voice in American letters. His book The Poet of Liberty co edited with William Rose Benet is due this summer from Random House. The free program welcomes students and faculty.
The Independent Students association will hold its first summer meeting on Thursday at 7 30 p m in 219K Albert Stump acting president said the group will discuss plans for the season.
Traffic court will be held for the first time during the summer session in 101M at 4 15 p m on July 10. Dale Rowe university traffic director announced the first session will be presided by Mary Jane Blackwell Arnold Lewis and Elmer Dietz Dietz is chief justice and Blackwell will sit in for her first session.
KSA forms flying club to meet at 4 p.m. Thursday July 10 in Merrill hall. The group aims to join the National Intercollegiate Flying Club once an airplane is obtained. Faculty interest supports a potential large-scale effort, says temporary advisor Professor Andrew Paton.
George Red Bird leader of the Cleveland Browns Musical Majorettes huddles with Milton Niergarth director of Cleveland Shaw high school band and Roy D. Metcalf director of Kent State university bands over plans for next year's Kent State university high school band clinic. Bird will be a guest conductor for the next session after assisting this year’s clinic which ended Thursday.
The university will host an open house Sunday July 13 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Bertha L. Nixson home economics house at 557 E Summit St. Faculty, staff, and students may tour the facility designed for practical home economics training.
The first bridge club meeting of the year in Moulton hall music room was called successful by Dean of Men Raymond E. Manchester who led the gathering. Four tables crowded with last year’s attendees, with a note that a concurrent concert may have reduced turnout.
Roy D. Metcalf announces a larger marching band clinic for 1948 after a successful 1947 session held June 28 to July 3. More than 125 Northeastern Ohio high school students enrolled. 1948 offerings include lessons on various instruments, private Kent instructor instruction, and a star lineup with Red Bird and baton experts.
Names of 240 students are on the spring quarter honor roll of the College of Education. Twenty have 4.0 averages and 220 others have averages from 8. to 3.99.
