Kent AWVS launches a magazine drive collecting light fiction and pictorials for servicemen passing through Kent on troop trains. Betsey Case, Franklin avenue grocer collector, with Nancy Beier directing, asks university dorms and sororities to donate. Boxes placed in the auditorium.
Plans for the University War Chest drive to be held in February will be discussed at a Office of War Activities meeting today at 3 PM in room 204. Merrill Kball and Norma Hakundy chair the event. War stamps will be sold during Wednesday social dancing to involve students in the war effort. Lt Comdr B F Wigginton of the British Naval Air arm will speak.
Dr A O DeWeese head of health and physical education named in the 1945 Who's Important in Medicine biography and activity listing. The biennial volume is published by the Institute for Research in Biography Inc New York and notes his role as executive secretary of the American School Health Association.
The Kent Stater editor and business manager will be appointed today by the publications committee at 4 p m in the journalism office. They will start duties the first week of February following candidates' applications. committee members include Dr. Lester Munzenmayer Chester Satterfield Alfred Crowell Don Wargowsky George Insche and former editors Frances Murphy and Ruth Recht.
Mike Friedland the director urged all orchestra members to attend an important rehearsal tonight due to ineligibilities. Present members must be in room 119, Kent Hall at 6 p.m. or the orchestra may be disbanded.
The record notes Wigginton in the Wildcat Squadron conducting missions over Madagascar from 1940 to 1943. He then assisted the chief school at the Naval Air Station Yeovilton in 1943, and rose to senior British naval officer in Brunswick, Maine in October 1944.
An important meeting of the business staff of the Chestnut Burr University annual will be held today at 4 p m in the Burr office. Lou Zaremba business manager announced. Any student interested in joining the staff is invited to attend.
Balloting today will choose a senior and a junior representative to Student Council. Election chairman Don Wargowsky says all seniors and juniors vote 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the atrium. Candidates include Bud Gerber and Jim Patterson for senior rep and Harriet Shobert against Ingrid Tornberg for junior rep. Freshman representatives in Men's Union also vote. nominees are Bob Nippler and Jim Frank. Patterson is active in Blue Key and Kappa Mu Kappa. Gerber is senior class president and producer of No.
Nine University students and faculty will have their names inscribed on the Penny Drive honor roll after collecting a dollar each to send Kent State men overseas. Over the past week the drive netted $16 in penny boxes carried by the student body.
Kent State University and Youngstown men plan a dinner honoring President George A. Bowman. About fifty attended a prior Cleveland meeting in December. the Youngstown Central YMCA hosts the February 7 event at 6 p.m.
Junior and senior class dues set at one dollar and one dollar fifty respectively. Edith Korte and Vi Gardner, the treasurers, said dues will be collected for the rest of the week.
Freshmen must attend a 4 p.m. meeting tomorrow in room 317 McGilvrey Hall. Class president Bob Nippler says dues for the year will be decided and the Popularity Ball will be discussed and planned.
Burr proofs for junior and senior Chestnut Burr must be turned in at the Burr office in Merrill Hall by 4 p m Thursday. Lou Zaremba, business manager, emphasized today.
Miss Tornberg serves as president of Alpha Omega sorority and secretary of the junior class while also holding roles in Phi Sigma Xi and the assembly committee. She works on the Chestnut Burr staff and studies liberal arts. Miss Shobert, a Beta Gamma sorority member, attends liberal arts, participates in University theater and Phi Sigma Xi, and serves on the social committee.
Six Student Council members will attend a workshop at Denison University on Saturday. Officers Peg Curry and Ethel Day lead the delegation joined by junior reps Don Wargowsky Betty Lee Winfield and sophomores George Insche Barbara Berkey. The council approved a $36 art budget yesterday and meets at 4 pm in Merrill Hall room 204 to discuss constitutional revisions.
E. Ladislaw Novotny associate professor of art has works in two exhibits. His oils in Youngstown at the Butler Art Institute include Karen a portrait of his daughter and Cuban Lottery Vonder. at the Cleveland School of Art he shows Habana Frutero and Summer Milkweed.
The University Radio Workshop airs Saturday January 27 at 11 45 am on WAKR Akron with an original script Boots and His Brothers by Betty Jane Shutrump senior liberal arts. Cast includes Mary Haines Dave Ryah Arlene Riggle Kay Bardel Bob Means Ed Suvanto John Thomas with Harry Daniels announcer.
