President Bowman announced the university would consider reverting from the quarter to the semester system. Students and faculty weighed pros and cons, with many favoring the quarter system for credit stability and shorter terms. If approved, the switch would not take effect until 1949 fall quarter due to accreditation and restructuring needs.
John Fineley won top monthly picture honors in the Lens and Shutter club as noted by James A. Fosdick of the University photography department. The group meets monthly with varied focus from outside speakers to model night, printing, and critical analysis sessions, all on Tuesday. An all day field trip to Nelson Ledges is planned.
Freshmen are urged to attend a meeting at 7 30 tonight in 317 McG. Freshman class President Dick Rice will outline plans for a mixer dance and form committees for social events. A publicity staff and a decoration committee are named. Dues will be discussed and class officers plus student council members will be introduced.
Proceeds from a social dance on Wednesday January 28 will support the Stadium Fund drive. Alice Jane Hoover and her all girl orchestra will perform, with eight pieces plus Katie McGrail joining. freshmen and a junior from Stow High School participate. The event runs 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. with 25 cent admission plus an activity card.
Chi Pi and Lambda Phi members will collect in the halls today to push the Mile of Dimes drive for the March of Dimes. Proceeds support the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis founded by Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Elections committee set Feb 5 for the election of a new sophomore representative to the student council. Ballot position drawing will be Jan 4. All parties seeking a ballot must be represented at the drawing. Candidacy requires 226 signatures. three campus parties have filed petitions.
A five member Student Council sub committee voted to earmark the 1575.78 left over from winter quarter allocations to the Stadium drive. Martha Lansinger and Pat West did not vote. The recommendation returns to the council at Monday's meeting.
Walton D. Clarke announces the dissolution of the Radio Workshop group at the school of speech after a conflict over the use of the name. The radio production staff remains as an appointed unit serving the public interest with faculty backing. Weekly broadcasts and Burr script staff photos are noted.
Dr. J Arthur Herrick of the biology department and Charles Baer of Ohio State spent two months last summer in the Banff Jasper region near Lake Louise, collecting 1000 color photographs of plants animals and geology. They camped in June and July faced weather mosquitos and a 3 a.m. porcupine incident while documenting 18 inch trout and wildlife for KSU and OSU departments. Herrick plans another summer trip stating a professional biologist seeks out biology rich regions.
In a Tuesday meeting the Council of Presidents approved a resolution to forward a recommendation to the Allocations committee advocating using the $1,500 surplus for the Stadium drive.
The Allocations Committee debates finance for a choir trip to New York after a veto of a $1,500 contribution. Prof William Taylor endorses the move as progress while President Tom Davey names Lansinger West Gressard Dempsey and Wentz to draft a solution.
Frank Carioti Jr leads distribution of Kent Alumnus to all seniors next week. The quarterly bulletin informs seniors about alumni activities under class officers. Gerald Chapman previews commencement events as the junior class prepares to host the senior prom on June 5.
A program of classical recordings will be shown in 312M at 7 30 as part of a weekly series. It will include Suite No 1 for Two Oboes Variations on a Theme by Haydn and The Moldau by Smetana and is not expected to exceed an hour and a quarter.
