The University players present a modern adaptation of Antigone by Lewis Galantiere next week. Directed by Muriel Lewis, the cast will wear formal attire against a plain set, with performances starting Wednesday January 14 and continuing Thursday and Saturday matinee and evening shows.
Fresh tests for entering freshmen will be given tomorrow after noon from 2 to 4 30 in the auditorium. The testing includes scholastic aptitude and reading examinations. Former students may also take the tests. Reading starts at 2 p m and the ACE scholastic ability exam at 3. Attendance will be taken and students excused from regular classes during the testing period. Dr. Dwight L Arnold directs the examination program.
Social dancing planned in Wills gymnasium from 7 30 to 10 00 with records used. A 25 cent admission supports hiring bands for future dances. Activity cards must be shown.
Freshman elections fill three Blue Star party seats with ISA securing president Richard Rice and vice president Lee Sproat and secretary Rita Hall. ISA also places Ted Trask among council members, while BS members Nancy Reddrop and Sally Koch join. Four unopposed men’s union candidates Pat Patton Ted Trask Don Esenwine and Bob Paskert win seats.
Nine university coeds approved by the faculty student committee to run for Miss Kent State must submit petitions with 500 signatures to the student council by 4 this afternoon. The election is set for January 15 with the winner to reign over the Top Hop the next night. The candidates are Ann Demiter Eleanor Meek Jean Gon cher Virginia Black Doris Heupel Matilda Davis Bonnie Jean Avant Phyllis Robbins and Mabel Davey.
Seniors in the college of business administration who will graduate in March or June should report to Dean Allyn's office promptly. Inquiries are being made and each senior must state his requirements.
Freshman and sophomore students who missed fall registration for the basic ROTC course MS 160 may enroll in MS 161 now. Lt. Col. Wall explains fall entry is typical for two years of three quarters each, with sequences 161 162 260 261 262 possible this and next year.
University traffic director Pete Heller warns that all student-owned or operated cars must be registered with the traffic department to avoid a $1 fine. If 1947 plates are already registered, no resubmission needed. A traffic court justice post is open to independent students with at least a 2.0 quarterly and cumulative average. submit names to the traffic department in the east gym corridor by Friday, Jan. 5 for a year-long term.
University students return to campus to find heavy construction in progress. Bulldozers and gravel spreaders reshape the parking lot area as coarse gravel gives way to finer material and floodlights are planned. Foundations rise at the student union and health center sites while grading and excavation near completion for the dormitory project.
Prof. John B. Nicholson Jr announces new winter quarter library hours. Main library open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Science library hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Five debate members will attend the legislative assembly of the northeastern Ohio debate conference at Oberlin on January 17. James N. Holm announces. Jeanne Cook Norm Bertellotti join the committee on U S Europe policy while Joan Fiocca Mirman Pugh serve on the international organization committee. George Taimuty joins the Far East policy committee. The conference aims to explain legislative procedure and provide practice in debate and parliamentary law.
Louise Jones announces all university organizations slated for the 1948 Chestnut Burr must have photographs taken before Friday January 23. Those already contracted should contact her in the Burr office or via mailbox to arrange a time and place.
Sororities start selling tickets at the booster booth for the annual Top Hop on January 16. Miss Kent State will be presented to the student body during intermission, with Sherwood orchestra providing jazz and sweet music. Tickets are $2 per couple, sales run through sorority booths and ISA.
The registrar reports 4919 students enrolled for the winter quarter after the office closed last night. Canton enrollment is not included in this total.
