College professors attend multiple national associations in AAAS and other meetings
Eight professors represented the biology department at the AAAS sessions in Chicago. Additional faculty members attended meetings of the Child Study association American Physical Society AAAS Teachers journalism economics sociology Spanish and Portuguese teachers Modern Language Association Sigma Delta Pi and other groups in Philadelphia Detroit Athens Washington Charlottesville and Los Angeles.

Beck Baby First In ’48 May Be Kent’s New Year First
A baby boy named Thomas George Beck was born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Beck in Robinson Memorial hospital Ravenna at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Becks, university comptroller and wife, may have Kent’s first baby of the year and will receive standard city newborn gifts if verified by the Kent Courier-Tribune. The infant weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces and has an older brother, Robert, 3.

President George A. Bowman announced two more construction contracts. Spahn Heating and Ventilating of Cleveland won the heating and ventilating bid at 56000 for the student center and classroom building, while Oaks and Vogel Electric of Akron received 65185 for the men's dormitory electrical contract.
