Lawrence Vitsky recalls Kent State University’s rise from a 1913 start with 46 students to a modern campus. Arthur W. Friedly, first Kent Normal school manual training diploma recipient, notes how rivalry with the Davey Tree Skinners, led by ex governor Martin L. Davey, shaped early seasons. He remembers Merrill Hall as the sole classroom, transporting chairs, hiring the janitor’s son for football, and Lowry hall under construction. Now Warren, Ohio, teaching industrial arts and with two university graduate daughters, Friedly praises steady progress.
A local official stated the policy will remain flexible and adjust as needed to suit the area's evolving requirements, ensuring it stays fluid and responsive to changes.
Last night a four member student ensemble titled Whole Tones of Rhythm provided music for a social dance to aid the stadium drive. Donated services by Donald Erb Tom Moore Rudy Schuster and Bob Gregory helped push donations past fifty dollars as the policy of weekly contributions continues with a 25 cent admission and a required activity card.
ISA members were invited to attend a stunt night at 8 p.m. in Akron central high school auditorium. After the meeting, the Akron unit was invited to join a future Akron ISA steering committee meeting to discuss involvement.
Stanislaw Mikolajczyk head of the Polish government in exile will address students on For Our and Your Freedom. He fled Poland as Moscow controlled regime moved to sentence him to death and has spoken across the United States since November 1947. He led the Peasant party for 17 years and has visited America four times, meeting Roosevelt and Truman.
A comedy drama presented as a thesis project by Mrs. Ernestine Donaldy, a KSU graduate student, depicts life of a modern interne training at a metropolitan hospital. Cast includes Bob Wallace, Bob MacDonald, Jim Iacovazzo, Duane Budner, Betty Hull with supporting roles and a full technical crew.
Dr. Weldon Williams of the English department will discuss Greek drama this evening at 8 in the library, opening a series on great books. The talk is open to all and sponsored by the American Association of University Women. Five more talks are planned this year by Dr. Florence Beall on Shakespeare, Dr. Dewey Amner on Don Quixote, Dr. William Meinke on Faust, Dr. Joseph Politella on Pilgrim's Progress, and Miss Dorothy Parsons on Balzac.
The Speech department and Radio Workshop host a fifteen minute radio play and quiz interview recording at eleven this morning in the university auditorium. The event demonstrates radio activities for students. The play Two To One was previously broadcast by the workshop. The Man In The Atrium program was recorded yesterday in the university atrium. The Radio Guild meeting Tuesday was canceled for lack of a quorum. an emergency meeting is set for next Tuesday at 7 30 p.m. The guild debates its future constitution.
Lambda Phi announces a cup awarded to the outstanding senior woman in Kent State University journalism. The trophy, donated by Frances Murphy, will be presented at the publications banquet on March 15 at the Mayflower hotel Akron. Five finalists Eleanor Meek Jean Goncher Ruth Thornbladh Marion Cole and Ann Gray submit applications by March 1.
