Delta Phi Sigma receives Sigma Nu approval for installation as Zeta Gamma on March 19. The Kent State Celts join Delta Upsilon as nationals, with Alpha Epsilon Pi slated for April. Sigma Nu has 103 chapters and 50,000 members.

Military Ball Draws 400 Couples at Akron Armory

About 400 couples will dance at Akron Armory on Monday Feb 21 for the annual Military ball sponsored by the local ROTC unit. Buddy Moreno and his orchestra will perform. Virginia Vaughn Alpha Phi will be honored as Cadet Colonel with Majors Cathy Scullian Carol Cassidy and Dana Lowry. A WADC broadcast from 11 30 to midnight will cover part of the event. Lt Col Wall will speak during intermissions. Tickets and tables available until Feb 18 via Maj G W Carter at the Hub.

Booster booth schedules announced for fraternity sorority shift

Time schedules for the booster booth operation are announced by Bill Reichard. In the morning four fraternities will run the booth: Kappa Sigma Chi Tau Kappa Delta Phi Sigma and Phi Gamma Theta. In the afternoon sororities Gamma Phi Delta Delta Gamma and Delta Zeta take charge.

Engleman Dances at Portage Hotel Akron

Akron women host their first formal of the year at the Portage Hotel from 9 to 12 with the Varsity Five playing for dancing. Shirley Dague chairs the event with Deane Ritter in charge of refreshments. Women will receive 1:30 late permits.

Four Burr Queen Finalists Revealed at Masque Ball

Four finalists Sally Koch Betty Reddrop Betty Jean Smeltzer and Carol Volkman were named by Life magazine editor G W Churchill. The queen will be chosen and announced at intermission during the Masque ball in the gym with masks worn by all finalists. A trophy crowning and flowers follow, with Neal Manning leading the men’s union and Germane Swanson presiding.

Nominations For Duke Poll Due Tuesday

Deadline for accepting nominations for the Duke of Kent has been moved to noon next Tuesday. Any group wishing to sponsor a duke must have nominations in Marian Clenton’s mailbox by then. Five nominations have been received. Polling opens Wednesday morning. Voters can cast ballots at a penny per vote at the Duke booth. The duke will be presented at the Akron Kent basketball game a week from tomorrow with the Duke of Kent trophy awarded then.

Two Winners Named In Stater Short Story Contest

Judges select Vincent Michael Spatola’s Sister Mary Rides A Motorcycle and Lloyd Chipps’ Accessories In Crime as winners. Due to limited space, both stories will appear next Friday. Entries from this and next week compete for the contest ending February 25 with the winner printed March 4.

Price Drops for Wednesday Social Dance at Moulton Hall

Admission for Wednesday evening social dancing at Moulton hall falls from 25 to 15 cents. The change reduces costs for attendees and the event continues weekly.
