Pulitzer prize winner Hodding Carter, editor of the Delta Democrat Times Greenville Mississippi, will speak March 1 at 8 15 p m in McGilvery auditorium. He is noted for fighting dishonesty and prejudice in public affairs and has held roles at Tulane University New Orleans Item United Press and Associated Press.

Spike Jones and City Slickers to perform at university gym

Spike Jones and his City Slickers with 52 musicians and the symphony orchestra will stage a two hour twenty minute concert at the university gym on April 18 at 8 15 p m. Proceeds go to the Memorial Stadium drive. Tickets range 2 50 orchestra 1 75 general 1 25 bleacher.

Military Ball Broadcast Planned From Akron Armory

The Military Ball will air on WADC from 11 30 to 12 00 p m Monday February 21 at the Akron Armory. Buddy Moreno's orchestra will perform and Lt Col Thomas F Wall will speak. Miss Virginia Vaughn will be introduced as Honorary Colonel with attendants. Frank Yukman hosts and covers Kent ROTC activities.

Short Story Contest Deadline Told For Friday

Students are reminded the deadline for next week's short story contest is Friday at 4 p.m. Submissions go to Sylvester Nemes in the Daily States office. A $5 weekly prize awaits the winner, with judges from the English department. In a tie, the prize is split.

Alpha Phi Conducting Heart Drive on Campus

Alpha Phi sorority leads a campus fundraiser for National Heart Week. Members wear red plastic hearts to fill with dimes for the American Heart Association led by Harold Stassen. Funds support heart disease research education and community service incl. blue baby operations and pediatric care.

Two Instructors Added To Faculty For Spring Term

President George A Bowman announced two new instructors joining the spring term faculty. Frederick L Holzhauser of Vermilion Ohio and Lawrence Danton of Ames Iowa were approved by the board. Holzhauser a KSU graduate will teach physics after teaching at Fairfield High School and Eastern Illinois State college. Canton was named instructor of economics at the Canton division and previously taught at Iowa State college in 1947.

Bid card deadline set by Turn In Cards Fraternity Council

The Turn In Cards International Fraternity Council requires all bid cards to be submitted to the Dean of Men by 4 p.m. Friday.

Masque Ball Shows Modern Decorations

Richard Kirchner of the art department announced the Masque ball decor to fit a reincarnation theme. The event on Saturday February 19 runs from 9 to 12 p.m. in Wills gym with spun glass and dry ice vapor effects and ceiling hanging abstract paintings. Four prizes for originality will be awarded by the Women's league, Men's union, and Art club. costumes are optional but encouraged. Chaperones include Mr and Mrs Elmer Novotny, Mr and Mrs Robert Morrow, and Miss Thelma Hyland.

Peerce Tickets Reserved for Free Jan Peerce Program

Free seats for the Jan Peerce program on Thursday February 24 are reserved at a hallway table between Kent Hall and the atrium. Tickets require a student activity card and are available today and tomorrow with specific table hours and extended next week for students and Townspeople on February 23 and 24.

KSU To Hold Vis Ed Course This Summer

Kent State University is named one of fifteen colleges to receive an Encyclopedia Britannica Films tuition scholarship for summer study. Roy E. Wenger will select scholars. funds cover tuition for teachers and administrators pursuing advanced study in audio-visual materials. Applications may be sent to Wenger. Floyde E. Students Offered Cadet Exams

Between March 4 and March 7, university men may qualify for aviation cadet training. A special air force team will be at Moulton hall music room to conduct interviews and preliminary examinations.
