Four day program starts February 23 where students write cast direct and produce a play. Miss Anne Cook Campus Visitor and director of dramatics at Atlanta University will supervise. The finished play debuts Friday at 8 15 pm in the university auditorium. She visits through University entertainment committee and the Association of American Colleges.
Latest bulletin from Cleveland Clinic reports Governor Davey remains about the same with no change. The Kent public figure is listed as quite sick after an acute attack of coronary thrombosis and hospitalization.
Contemporary campus thought will be given dramatic form by Miss Cook to illustrate her views on drama as part of everyday life. One main purpose she aims to achieve is to offer the campus audience a new perspective on theatre and its relevance to daily experience.
Dr K C Leebrick will lead a noon luncheon discussion on Problems of Nationals with sorority and fraternity presidents and the advisory committee at the Robinhood. 22 participants are expected as he aims to answer questions on national organizations for local Greek groups.
Akron Beacon Journal sports editor Razzer Jim Schlemmer will speak at the Congre gational church River and Park streets for the Men’s Day dinner. He will answer questions and discuss his Kent football predictions. The second annual event features spaghetti and ends by 8 p m with speeches from Dr Leebrick Bob Leese and George Fleischer. Tickets are available at the Dean of Men’s office and Men’s Union committee members.
The University Radio Workshop will present over 40 programs this semester on WAKR and WHBC. Director Albert Capuder announced expanded activities, inviting students to audition as readers and assist with technical work. The ninth program Applause adapts Lincoln’s Gettysburg address with G Blair Sheers directing and appearing.
Enrollment in the Kent home economics department rises about 60 percent from last year under Prof Bertha Nixson. She notes increased job calls in the field and suggests home management and furnishing courses equip coeds to improve their homes and prospects.
Registrar E C Stopher reports only 2431 of 2702 first semester students registered for second term a decline blamed on defense jobs and military enlistments. At Akron University registrations fell from 1763 to 1620, signaling a nationwide trend as students join the armed forces or seek work.
Todd Branson reports on Phil Barry's Hotel Universe at University Theater. The production departs from Barry's comedies to explore postwar cynicism and youth angst with a dark existential focus. Curtain is 8:15 tonight in the auditorium.
The newly formed Photography club will hold its first gathering tonight at 7 p m in 115 Kent Hall. President Maynard Hale announced the event yesterday.
International contralto Miss Hertha Glaz brings a concert to Kent State University in the University auditorium on Tuesday February 18 at 8 15 pm. Presented by the university entertainment committee she left Europe three years ago and praises American democracy and liberty while inviting students to reserve seats in Merrill Hall and the atrium desk.
A Boy Scout Meeting and Training school at 6:30 p m. WAA Professors club meets 7 30 p m at Kent hall. Off Campus house presidents association at 7 30 p m in Merrill hall. Basketball game KSU against Mt. Union at 8 p m. University Theater presents Hotel Universe at 8 15 p m with a 4 1/2 hour afterplay announcement.
