Danish Pianist Humorist Victor Borge To Perform Twice

Danish pianist humorist Victor Borge will give an afternoon and evening show next Tuesday at the Kent State university auditorium. Born in Copenhagen in 1909 he debuted at 13 and later impressed audiences with comic piano bits. He left Europe in 1940 to escape the Nazis and soon found fame in America, his sharp wit evolving from early improvisations into a long career of jokes and music.

Ex-President Appointed To Pacific Post

Dr. K. C. Leebrick former Kent State president from 1938 to 1943 is named by Elbert D. Kent hosts large summer turnout for graduate physical education

More than 100 teachers from six states including Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Virginia, and Washington attend Kent summer graduate courses offered by Professor Frank E. Ballenger. The program leads to a master of education in health or physical education and covers health administration as well as activity courses.

Justices Named for Summer Traffic Court

Arnold Sharkey and Bill Dramer have been appointed to fill summer traffic court justices. They were chosen by the university business manager and the committee to oversee the program.

Victor Borge Tickets On August 21 Performances

Students with activity cards may obtain unlimited general admission for the 2 p.m. show and up to two reserved seats for the 8:30 p.m. show. Faculty may obtain tickets similarly. Tickets are in Kent hall corridor today 8:45–11 and 12:45–, then in Merrill Hall Room 106 after today. Public access to 2 p.m. tickets in Merrill Hall. evening limit two seats per person.

Court Considers Sessions Schedule For Presiding Justice

The court will meet two or three times this session at the discretion of the presiding justice to determine calendar and procedures for ongoing cases.

Draft Forms Must Be Filed for College Deferments

About 800 draft eligible university males have filed deferment applications through the registrar. Students must file by Monday August 20 or risk losing deferment. Pick up forms, fill items one through five, and return copies. Registrar sends copies to draft boards, the student, and keeps one on file. General Hershey notes deferment requires records before the local draft board.

Graduation Exercises Set for August 31

Summer commencement will be held Friday August 31 at 10 am in the men’s health and physical education building. Edgar Ansel Mowrer will deliver the address as guest speaker. About 500 students are candidates for degrees across the education college, graduate school, liberal arts, and business administration. Mowrer, longtime foreign correspondent and Pulitzer Prize winner, has authored several books including Germany Puts the Clock Back. He was expelled from Germany by the Nazis after reporting on Hitler and World War II events.
