Kent State and Miami to Offer Military Map Making Program

Kent State University joins Miami University in Ohio to offer a Military Map Making program this fall by order of the U S Army Map Service. Twelve upper class or graduate students will enter the final course each quarter with five KSU geographers teaching. Dr. James R Beck will attend a Washington conference in August to finalize precise Army Map Service requirements for program leaders.

McGinnis Named Coordinator for University ROTC Affairs

Benjamin G. McGinnis appointed coordinator of affairs for the University Army ROTC and new Air Force ROTC. President George A Bowman says he will liaise between units to resolve issues. McGinnis has been with Kent since 1949, holding education and guidance roles prior to Kent.

Student Named Outstanding Cadet at Fort Campbell

Albert Q. Hales Jr., a Kent junior, was named outstanding ROTC cadet for his company during the summer encampment at Fort Campbell Kentucky. He is designated a distinguished military student and will be commissioned as a reserve second lieutenant after ROTC training next year.

The Chestnut Burr seeks donations of yearbooks predating 1936 and those from 1937 41 42 and 43 for a new reporting room in 109M. Donors will have their names permanently placed on the donated volume. contact Ed Clincy at the Burr office in the Military science building.

Kent Students Hurt In Crash at East Main Intersection

Two Kent students, James R. Pfeiffer and Earl Kitchenman of 118 Sherman Street, were injured in an auto accident Monday night at the East Main Willow street intersection. They were taken to Robinson Memorial hospital in Ravenna. Pfeiffer’s condition was listed as fair.

Chancellor von Schuschnigg to Speak at University Forum

Former Austrian chancellor Dr Kurt von Schuschnigg will discuss Central Europe and the world situation at the university auditorium on Tuesday August 14 at 830 pm. The program at KSU is open to the public without charge.

Borge Show Ticket Details For August 21

Tickets are required for Victor Borge's two shows on Tuesday August 21. Reserved seats for the 8 30 p.m. evening performance and general admission for the 2 p.m. afternoon show will be issued August 16 in the corridor between Kent Hall and the Administration building, then in Merrill Hall 106 after August 16. Afternoon tickets go to activity card holders and faculty on August 16 with no seat reservations. Evening tickets allow two reserved seats per student with second summer term activity card. Faculty may obtain both afternoon and evening tickets.

Kent students receive Army commissions at summer camp

Three Kent students earned army commissions while training at Fort Campbell Kentucky. Robert A. Costello Akron Jack R. Mancos Cleveland and Sol P. Baltimore Detroit Michigan were promoted to second lieutenant and all had prior service. They will return to Kent to finish education and may report to active duty.
