AWVS Elects New Officers and Sells War Stamps

Dorothy Watson and Delores Williamson were elected co chairmen of the American Women's Volunteer Service at a recent meeting. Dorothy Baynes became secretary, Wanda Ginsinger treasurer, Gladys Ulch enrollment chief, Edith Galloway recorder, and Kaye Tolt publicity chair. Installation set for May 1 with a service. AWVS seeks to offer Red Cross home nursing through Kent and University courses next fall. The group meets April 30 at 4 in Dean Manchester's office. a May picnic is planned.

War Stamp Drive Led by Edith Korte and Virginia Goodwin

Edith Korte and Virginia Goodwin head a War stamp drive for the Office of War Activities. A duty booth operates at Wills gymnasium with stamps sold through May 4. A $2 award is given for the stamp bearing the lucky number. Elaine Chamberlain chairs the OWA and emphasizes selling as many stamps as possible.

Ott Gandee to Lead Akron Orchestra at Chestnut Burr Dance

Ott Gandee and his all male Akron orchestra were chosen to play for the Chestnut Burr dance on May 5 in Wills gym. The event honors the Chestnut Burr queen of 1945 with Earl Carroll selecting the queen. The dance runs 9 to 12, with one o’clock permits for University women and activity-ticket admission only.

Music Groups Plan Recitals For May And June

Music groups will present recitals through May and into June. Kenneth R. Osborne announces the schedule with soloists from the Women’s Glee club and performances by choir and orchestra under Elfreda Littlejohn George Gove and Roy Metcalf. Esther Douglass Emily Habine and other students will give senior recitals in Merrill Hall.

Papp Elected President of University Radio Workshop

George Papp wins the presidency of the University Radio Workshop with Edwin Suvanto as vice president. Felice Faust becomes secretary treasurer and chief sound effects engineer, with Susan Schwartz as chief engineer. Cardinal Key taps eight seniors and juniors for honorary honor

Eight students were pledged Wednesday by Cardinal Key, listing four juniors and four seniors. The group includes Miss Selzer, Miss Wess, Miss Anderson, Miss Berkey, Miss MacDonald, Miss Tornberg, Miss Ulch, and Miss Warren, with leadership roles in sororities and education clubs noted. Mary Ellen Hoffman presided with Elizabeth Piotter and others assisting.

Infantryman Bob Smith Killed in Germany in World War II

Pfc. Bob Smith, 19, a Training school graduate and University student in 1943, has been killed in Germany with the 63rd division of the Seventh army after seventeen weeks infantry training. He had been listed as missing since April 3 before confirmation of death. S-Sgt. William Wright, 21, also associated with the University as an Air Corps cadet, is reported missing over Italy since April 8 while serving as radio man and gunner on a B 24 Liberator with Fifteenth Air Force.

Inscho Takes Charge Of SC At Meeting

A newly elected Student Council assumed leadership at the quarterly Student Government association meeting on Wednesday. Don Wargowsky passed the presidency to George Inscho and urged student body responsibility. Inscho pledged to advance student government and cited University leadership beyond Ohio colleges. He highlighted student control of the activity fund as a key duty. Reports from student faculty committees and services followed the transition.
