An Evening of Dance, part of the Arts festival, opens this evening at 8 15 in the auditorium. Thirty students perform in a program focusing on expression through structure space rhythm and movement with minimal background music. Tickets available in Kent Hall and late arrivals will be refused entry.
Doctor W. Leslie Garnett announces internships with the United Nations and the State Department through the US competition. Three openings for students and one for a professor or graduate student across about 300 universities. Summer work at Geneva or Washington. Applications due May 1. viewing hours daily 1 to 5 p.m. in 213M.
Ray Anthony and his orchestra will play for the Junior-Senior prom on Monday May 29 in Moonlight gardens Meyers Lake Canton. John Kapioltas junior class president announced the event sponsored by the junior class with tickets at 1 dollar per person free admission for class dues paid members. The prom coincides with a school holiday on May 30. The event proceeds from the Popularity ball help finance the dance.
America's first woman diplomat Ruth Bryan Rohde will deliver a lecture May 2 at 11 a.m. in the university auditorium. She discusses Our Responsibility for a Peaceful World and holds posts with the United Nations Speakers Research Committee and the National Women's Forum.
Blue Key applications for the men’s national service honorary are now in the Dean of Men’s office. Applicants must be juniors or seniors. Deadline to return forms is May 9, per Irv Wheatley, the membership chairman.
Former Kent State University employee Rich Williams died at his Kent home Friday April 21. A 35 year staff member until his 1948 retirement he joined in 1913 as a Stanley Steamer school bus driver and later worked in maintenance. Services were set for 2 p.m. at Bissler Funeral Home.
Mayor Frank J. Dangler Jr of Kent criticized campaign parades by Nu-K and Blue and Gold before the election for lacking permits and creating fire hazards. He warned future parades require city permits and noted posters on poles were illegal, with traffic rerouting cited as the issue for the Nu-K parade.
New student representatives elected last Thursday will be installed by the Student Council when it meets at 4 p.m. tomorrow in 2020. The council will conduct its regular weekly business and President Irv Wheatley urges all members to attend. Wheatley said the meeting was moved forward a day to allow new members to take their examinations for council.
Walter Cerveny will conduct the Kent State Civic Orchestra in a Thursday 8:30 p.m. concert in the university auditorium. Forty musicians, students and townspeople, will perform a 90 minute program featuring Handel's Concerto for Organ with William Evans as soloist, Porter’s Music for Strings, and Mozart Jupiter Symphony. Open to the public.
More than 90 students were interviewed by an Air Force team on campus Thursday Friday and yesterday for careers as officers. Of those, four applied for pilot training and two for officer entry. final acceptance will take about a month after paperwork and medicals are completed. The nationwide program aims to build an officer corps largely from college graduates.
Fourteen students and three faculty members will be installed tonight into Gamma Upsilon chapter of Delta Phi Alpha the national German language honorary fraternity. A 6:30 p.m. banquet at Robin Hood restaurant features Dr. John Sinnema of Baldwin Wallace as speaker.
There will be no meeting rooms available at the Union this week because of the Kent State teachers education workshop. Rooms will be available next week.
