University students cast 825 votes for top campus honors. Boyle, set to join Navy officers training May 28, won Most Popular Man by a wide margin. Chapman, backed by the Beta Gammas sorority, edged Greek party candidate Hope Byrne by 12 votes to claim Most Popular Woman.
Two hundred seniors will dance to Carvel Craig 11 piece orchestra at the Mayflower hotel in Akron tomorrow night from 10 to 2. The campus’ most popular man and woman will be presented during intermission by Joe Hart dance chairman. Chaperones include numerous faculty members and deans. Admission is by class dues tickets only, with dues payable at gym entrance today.
Betty Chapman thanks supporters voters and Beta Gammas for help in her Most Popular Woman win. Eddie Boyle also thanks voters and expresses hope to be worthy of his Most Popular Man honor.
Key is a three year varsity basketball team member and CAA student. Boyle aims to finish his degree before joining the navy next month. Chapman KSUs new Most Popular Woman has held student leadership roles and clubs, is a junior majoring in sociology with psychology minor, from Cleveland Heights and Euclid.
Professor Fren Musselman dean of the summer session and extension will depart Monday to Youngstown to help evaluate Chaney High School.
Paul Schrader news editor of the Toledo Times rated The Kent Stater as one of the best and most professional college papers seen during the Ohio College Newspaper association convention. Ohio editors and managers gathered for the 16th annual meeting on the University of Toledo campus with representatives from The Duchess and Chestnut Burr.
Dr. K. C. Leebrick, president of the University, will honor writer Dick Kerckhoff with a $25 war bond at a Monday 11 a.m. assembly. The University band under Prof. Roy D. Metcalf will perform selections including the national anthem. members should report to the auditorium shortly before 11.
Delta Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity, received approval from the Grand Council of Delta Sigma Pi. Joe Blair announced the action at a farewell smoker for Dr. Harry D. Wolfe, marketing professor and faculty adviser, who departs to Washington, D C. Freshmen were entertained after the ceremony.
Dorothy Siedschlag announced late last night that petition blanks for May Queen are available in the dean of women’s office. Eligible entrants are junior and senior women with a 2.0 average or higher. Petitions must be signed by 25 people and include a 4 by 5 glossy photo. Entries due by May 2 with Dr E Ladislaw Novotny as contest judge.
The Greek party captured four of six council seats on campus in a light turnout election. Guisewite and Forsberg won the two non Greek seats. Eubanks and Greenwood took junior posts. Zink and Forsberg claimed sophomore seats. Bettie Morris led Women’s League as president with Doak as VP and Miller as second VP.
Dr. K C Leebrick, president of the University, forecasts a lengthy war with a probable end four to five years hence. He argues Japan overextended and cannot match U S war production, noting five weeks to move from San Francisco to the Philippines and six or seven island bases used by Japan. The third war course forum, titled The World Strategy, is set for May 13 with several history and sociology faculty participating.
Men aged 45 to 65 may register at the registrar's office next Monday for the fourth Selective Service draft. Registration runs 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The eligible men are those who turned 45 on or before February 16, 1942 and will be under 65 by April 27.
Charles Dragga, Cleveland sophomore, will head the YMCA next year and be installed Tuesday at 7 p m in room 108 Kent Hall. Gerald Daniels, outgoing president, will be installing officer. Other new officers are Frank Crofoot vice president Al Simon secretary and Jerry Elliott treasurer.
