The Kent Stater earned first place for best promotion and editorial campaign at the 16th OCNA convention in Toledo. It won a silver plaque from The Toledo Blade for returning to nine weeks grades and urging study during buckle down week. The Stater also placed second for best daily in the state, behind Akron’s Buchtelite. Dick Kerckhoff received honorable mention for a feature story.

Auto Hits Tree On 43 Near Kent
Two freshmen Betty Hessel from Youngstown and William Kazimer of Newton Falls sustained minor injuries when the car they rode in left Route 43 one mile south of Kent and struck a tree at 4 15 p m yesterday. Kazimer, the driver, said strong winds forced the vehicle into the tree.

McGinnis Higgins Pierce Set For Ohio Oratory Contest
Kent state entrants Dick McGinnis Jane Higgins and Scheffel Pierce depart for Columbus to represent the college in the annual peace oratory contest involving about 15 Ohio schools. President Excuses Classes for State Scholarship Tests

Special Assembly Honors Kerckhoff Regala At University
