Kent faces a Greek debate as national social sororities may begin to form while national education sororities keep pace. Deans Hyatt and Manchester note a favorable outlook with hitches and urge careful petitioning and study of prospective nationals.
Harlan H. Hatcher OSU dean of liberal arts and English professor will address OSU students at a Thursday 10 a.m. assembly. Born Sept 9 1898 in Ironton he earned a Ph.D. in 1927 and wrote works on Browning and Ohio history. He also serves as book critic for the Columbus Citizen.
University senior David Ryan won the championship of the men s impromptu speaking contest at a regional Pi Kappa Delta tournament held in Georgetown Kentucky this weekend. Jeanne Cook placed in both women s oratory and the woman representative events, and a team of Ryan Ray Farr and Matthew Bradley finished third in debate. Eighteen member schools from Michigan to Florida attended the convention and tournament.
Nearly 3000 student musicians from 40 northeastern Ohio high schools auditioned for bands orchestras and choruses at the annual district event held last weekend. Sponsored by KSU and the Ohio Music Education Association, the competition saw five orchestras 36 bands and 14 choruses entered, according to Roy D Metcalf.
The Windham Union of KSU and Hiram College students living at Maple Grove housing will hold its second meeting Wednesday at 8 p m in the community building to elect officers. A policy committee including Paul Harris Thomas Curphey Wilbur Thomas John Stein Fred Laver and John Mikkelson was formed to plan entertainment recreation and ways to reduce living costs. Professors Merle Wagoner Edward Rehanek and Thomas Curphey John Walton helped organize the group.
University students will attend the Fourth Annual Penny Carnival at Wills gym Friday night at 7 30. Fifteen campus groups will run 24 concessions with prizes and fund subscriptions for Kent Stater copies for former students in the service.
Henry Johnston, junior in the college of liberal arts, was unanimously chosen to lead the student council next year. He will be joined on the ballot by Dana Mae Burkhardt Barbara McDowell and George Inscho for the officer slate with Wayne Higley and Joe Capulowitz as holdovers. Petitions for freshman sophomore and junior nominees are due by noon Friday April 26 in the student council office with a 2.0 last quarter average and voting eligibility rules.
A preview of next fall's Golden Flashes football team is planned with an intra squad game at Kent Roosevelt's Bowers field at 8 pm on May 8. Head Coach Trevor Rees says the game will raise funds to help pay for football tags worn next season.
Prof. Roy D. Metcalf, director of the band, invites students to join the fall band and baton twirling contest during the May 8 benefit football game. Interested individuals should contact Metcalf to try out.
The report notes the upcoming climax to a six week spring training, now past its midway point, with continued coverage promised on Page Four.
Vocational interest and personality tests will be given in Room 317 from 9 to 11 a.m. on Thursday May 9 for all students who have not yet taken them. Names of those who fail will be reported to the deans. The tests are for guidance and do not affect admission or grades.
Refunds for laboratory fees and chemistry and physics deposits will be issued at the treasurer's office in the atrium tomorrow and Thursday before 4 p m. Authorization cards must be presented for all refunds, according to assistant treasurer O B Law.
