Dewey Barich coordinator of veterans affairs and Dr. George R. Bach head of the university guidance clinic attend an all day meeting of the Cleveland Psychological Association. The conference centers on Psychological Guidance of the Veteran.
The student council passed the spring quarter budget with no debate after the allocations committee work last week received the council's stamp of approval.
Lee Shenefiel's dogwood crucifixion story will be dramatized at 11 15 a m tomorrow on station WAKR. Kent State University radio workshop presents the program directed by Edwin Suvanto with cast including Virginia White Felice Faust Miss Shenefiel Warren Lashley Al Post Chuck Hoover Don Shanower Fred Baker Jim Burnett Bob Smiley. O. L. Okie McGown, a university employee who suffered a heart attack while at work last week, is reported “much better” by Akron City hospital officials. He started as a janitor in 1938 and rose to maintenance roles, overseeing lockers, gym equipment, and shipping and receiving at the university.
The Geography club schedules a picnic for all geography students on Tuesday April 23 at 4 p m in the university woods. Committee members are Bill Horbal y, Bob Wallis and Margaret Dornbusch.
Veterans will reach about 3,000,000 in U S colleges by 1950 per a Chicago conference on education of veterans. Dewey F Barich said veterans are a permanent influx and highly capable, with many married and some with children. Housing and textbook shortages were noted as universal challenges.
Campus Night rules and committees announced by John Jack chairing the event. Participants must hold a 2.0 average and fraternities or sororities may select any song with no solo performances allowed.
More than 2500 music students from 42 high schools travel to Northeastern Ohio District auditions at Kent State University and Roosevelt High School. Auditions start 1 PM at Roosevelt and 2 25 PM at the university with a 9 PM start tomorrow. Roy D Metcalf directs the two day event open to all choruses and glee clubs.
Students may act as guides today or tomorrow for the annual Northeast Ohio District auditions. Contact Roy D. Metcalf associate professor of music today in Merrill Hall room 15. Three entries from the training school will form the band, orchestra directed by John Farinacci, and the senior glee club.
Jeanne Cook, a university sophomore and speech major minoring in Spanish, will study at the National University of Mexico on an AAUW Kent-Ravenna scholarship. She was chosen from university applicants and is active in Pi Kappa Delta, Pan-Hellenic, student council, and Alpha Omega.
Dr. Amos L. Heer director of teacher training and Dr. John L. Blair dean of the college of education attend a meeting of deans and directors of teacher training at Columbus today and tomorrow. They will plan the Miami Workshop scheduled July 7 through July 19.
All 12 sororities and fraternities plus dormitories and Alpha Psi Omega back the Penny Carnival led by co chairs Kaye Tolt and Vincent Fox. The event at Wills gym April 26 runs 5 7:30 p.m. with 10 cent admission and prizes for top campus concession fundraisers.
Private pilot licenses were granted to Art Henry and Don Cox this week. They completed the CAA test at the university air port as first members of the elementary flight class to fulfill the requirements.
Caro Carapetyan assistant professor of music will lead the university a cappella choir at a noon luncheon of the Shriners club today in Akron at the Mayflower Hotel.
A Stater Reporter notes Brady Hall residents eat 15 pounds of hamburgers daily and drink vast coffee and Coke amounts. Rose Heffley cites eight hamburgers per pound and 80 quarts of coffee daily, while George Husa reportedly averages 12 coffee cups in eight hours.
