University Employee’s Condition Improves at Akron Hospital

O. L. Okie McGown, a university employee who suffered a heart attack while at work last week, is reported “much better” by Akron City hospital officials. He started as a janitor in 1938 and rose to maintenance roles, overseeing lockers, gym equipment, and shipping and receiving at the university.

3 Million Veteran Students by 1950 for American Colleges

Veterans will reach about 3,000,000 in U S colleges by 1950 per a Chicago conference on education of veterans. Dewey F Barich said veterans are a permanent influx and highly capable, with many married and some with children. Housing and textbook shortages were noted as universal challenges.

More than 2500 music students from 42 high schools travel to Northeastern Ohio District auditions at Kent State University and Roosevelt High School.
