The university adopts a preferential voting system for Student Council elections. Voters will rank candidates by placing numbers opposite names, while straight X selections remain for other offices. Officials say the method ensures majority rule and logical voter choice.
Milan Grnach Fran Allen and Lenard Silverstein former University Radio Workshop leaders receive a Sunday afternoon slot on WAKR Akron starting May 3. The ex KSRW trio will write and direct four May programs replacing Cavalcade of America. They will use University talent and perform as Quadrette with radio names Graach Allen and Silverstein.
Mrs Alpha Baker and her husband present six reels detailing Australia's war effort at 8 15 tonight in the university auditorium. Students with activity tickets may enter. non students pay 55 cents. The films feature Pratt and Whitney motors used by Allied planes, Port Darwin Port Moresby and city bombings, and scenes from the British East Indies China Siberia and New Zealand reflecting war impact.
Dick Kerckhoff Roy Apple and Bill McCarty won the top three places breaking a three way tie for MU writing cup points announced by Harlan Hunger ford assistant professor of English.
Paul Brown, president, announced at a special meeting that PBP becomes the fifth fraternity to drop from the Greek political party. The group will remain neutral until after the current election and will not endorse any candidate.
The Navy approves Kent State University's V-1 curriculum for eligible under twenty male students. Randall Jacobs of the Navy’s Bureau of Navigation announced the approval and a 2 PM meeting in McGilvrey Hall room 317 for freshmen and sophomores will explain the program with Lieut. Eddie Adams assisting. If candidates fail V-5 or V-7 exams, they face active duty as apprentice seamen.
The Kent Stater will send Editor Gus Chigges Business Manager Alvin Geigey and Managing Editors Earl Vacaria and Jim Richard to the 16th annual Ohio College Newspapers convention in Toledo. The three day event at the University of Toledo will award top Ohio collegiates for weekly bi weekly and daily papers. Professor William Taylor journalism head will be faculty representative with Howard Ness of Campus Collegian chairing.
Five newly elected Central Committee representatives were seated at the Student Council meeting. The council approved a motion to present the most popular man and woman at the senior prom to be held Saturday at the Mayflower Hotel in Akron. Members named Betty Gorlich Theresa Sprosty Bill Clark Jim Hewitt and Charlie Ayres to the central committees. Jane Higgins was chosen to lead Campus Night planning with Blue Key and Cardinal Key for May 15. Assisting her are Ayres, Hope Byrne, Gorlich and Ray Gallagher. North Zink was appointed to oversee homecoming cups distribution. Bob Mosher and Dick Clark were picked to help Mrs. Marie Apple sell war stamps and bonds to University men.
A dramatic adaptation based on Betty Pequignot's short story Machine portrays an Italian-born worker under suspicion as a potential fifth columnist at an American defense plant. Bob Hauser and Carol Richards lead the broadcast from WADC Akron, followed by a 15-minute round table with Kent State alumni Harold Jones Joe Kelley and Mona Fletcher discussing the value of alumni to Northeastern Ohio communities.
