Two Students Killed or Missing in World War II Casualty List

The latest casualty list names Pfc. Earl Walker reported missing in France October 24, 1944 and confirmed dead. Sgt. Jack Schafer waist gunner on a Flying Fortress is missing over Germany since March 18. Pvt. Vincent P Figluilo, a liberal arts graduate from August 1941, is missing in Europe with details not yet known.

University Resigns Residence Director Mary Jane Klein

The board accepted the resignation of Mary Jane Klein the university director of residences after two years. Genevieve Wheelock of Cuyahoga Falls was appointed assistant librarian and Eleanor Hruby approved as head of the University dining hall. Sixty two faculty members will teach the first summer session and thirty seven in the second. Klein leaves to pursue a master’s degree at Columbia University.

Kent Stater Loses Ohio Daily Award Despite Top Honor

The Kent Stater was judged the best college daily by the Ohio College Newspaper association yet the Ohio State Lantern won the award due to Kent’s lack of convention representation. Staff cited financial and transport issues for not attending. editor Elizabeth Piotter questioned attendance rules. The Stater had prior first and second place finishes with gaps in 1943 and 1944.

Duchess Positions Open Today

The revived Duchess office opens today under Hank Johnston editor. Students planning to return next fall may apply for editorial art or business roles in the humor magazine by meeting Johnston or leaving a note in his mailbox with experience and interests. A staff meeting will be held later this quarter to assign department roles.

Burr Queen Contest Accepts Smaller Pictures

Chestnut Burr Queen entries will allow five by seven inch photos in place of eight by ten. Jean Lenner editor announced today. Deadline for entries is Friday April 20.

Map Making Interview Visit By Ruth Stevenson At Campus

University students and area residents may interview Ruth Stevenson Washington representative on April 17 during campus demonstrations. She will join map making classes taught by Edna Eisen assistant professor of geography and present the Multiplex Aero Projector demonstrations at 11 am 3 pm and 4 30 pm in room 458 McGilvrey hall. Stevenson will interview prospective and current class members from 1 30 pm to 3 pm.

USSA To Meet Tonight To Hear Constitution

The University chapter of the United States Student Assembly will present its constitution for approval at 7 30 tonight in room 214 Kent Hall. Chairman Oliver Ocasek urges all members to attend as a majority approval is required.

Women Seize Extemp Trophy at Pi Kappa Delta Meet

Elizabeth Piotter of the University topped eight Ohio and Michigan rivals to win first in the women’s extemporaneous contest at the Pi Kappa Delta tournament in Toledo. Aurelia Christen of Bowling Green finished second. The men’s team tied for second, with Otterbein, while Central Michigan led.

Allocations Approved for Student Control Fund

The Student Council approved a $393 distribution from the student control fund. Allocations include $150 to the entertainment committee, $66 to the Women's League, $150 to the social committee, and $25 to the band. Funds support student programs and women counselors and desk girls for next fall. the band will use money to repair instruments.

Miss Haines Star of Freshman Play and Summer Theater Award

The rector notes Miss Haines led last year’s freshman play Three Plays This Year and appeared in Angel Street Night Must Fall and Morning’s At Seven. She prefers legitimate stage to film and seeks radio work, with dramas on WHBC Canton and WJW Akron. A Massachusetts theater colony award winner, she plans to pursue acting and directing in New York after graduation.
