The Hiram a cappella choir performs Ballad for America by La Touche and Robinson in a 2 PM university assembly in the auditorium. Albert Dotson of Chillicothe sings all solo roles for a 42-voice choir. Afterward, a 3 to 5 PM tea in Engleman hall lounge.
The University Training school reports $2700 raised in three months from war bonds and stamps sales. Supervising English teacher Miss Doris Kineman announced yesterday. Students Jean Strawbridge, Martha Dussel, and Harriet Brunswick sold the stamps and bonds.
President Roosevelt not present for the opener amid wartime effort. Lou Boudreau stars as Ken Keltner homers for the Indians in a 5 2 victory over Detroit. Ted Williams also homers for the Red Sox. Reds drop 4 2 to Pirates.
Seniors must pay class dues by Friday April 24 at the Wills gym entrance to attend the senior prom at the Mayflower hotel in Akron. Hal Martin president announced yesterday that all June or August graduates must pay by the date.
Dr J Arthur Herrick and Dr Ralph W Dexter will present papers at the 52nd annual Ohio Academy of Science meeting at Denison University. Herrick coauthors Thiamin Production in Actinomyces for the botany section, while Dexter presents A Second Survey of the Anastracan Phyllogods in Northeastern Ohio to the zoology section.
Campus Night organizers announced last night that the annual event is scheduled for May 15. Student council leaders confirmed the date and urged students to participate.
Louis Untermeyer will lecture on How To Hate Poetry and share the program in the auditorium at 8 p m tomorrow night. Mrs William Sheperd will give a vocal recital sponsored by the Faculty Women's club. Admission is free for students and 55 cents for outsiders.
Russ Simpson, Warren sophomore, was named winner of a $25 War Bond offered by Delta Kappa Psi. Dr. Harry D. Wolfe, associate professor of marketing, drew the name. Howard Doehla, public relations head, said the bond was the fraternity’s contribution to the U S war effort.
About 35 students will donate blood for the Red Cross tomorrow. They will leave Kent at 3 55 p m by bus to the Ravenna Red Cross center to aid wounded Army and Navy men. Unregistered donors may see Dr A O DeWeese this morning.
The annual Men s Union editorial writing contest closes Friday April 17. Entries must be under 300 words and submitted to Harlan M Hungerford in the English office. Points earned contribute toward the Manchester cup.
Beta Gamma becomes the fourth group to quit the Greek party and backs Betty Chapman for Most Popular Woman while Nellie Nalle gains senior student council support. KMK and other groups had recently withdrawn as petitions rush toward the April 23 ballot.
A National Red Cross representative will visit the campus the week of April 27 to lead a first-aid course for lay instructors. Dr. A O DeWeese notes eligible students have completed standard and advanced courses. Classes run 7 to 10 p m for five evenings. The course will certify instructors to teach first aid.
The Student Council plans an evening banquet at 6 30 tonight at the Robin Hood restaurant. Peg Curry chairs the event with Norb Zink and Martha Forsberg assisting. Guests will include Pres and Mrs Karl C Leebrick Dean and Mrs R E Manchester and Miss Mary L Smallwood with a guest. Reservations for 21 have been made.
A salute to baseball and a dramatic skit on education history aired on Radio Workshop over WADC yesterday. Bill Guisewite performed Casey at the Bat with sound effects.
A special Newman Club meeting was announced by Father Leo Carlin for 7 30 o'clock tonight at St. Patrick's School. Tom Bates, president, reported the call late last night.
Dr H D Bollinger national secretary of the Methodist Student movement will be guest speaker at the Ohio Methodist Student conference at Kent next Friday to Sunday. Delegates from seven Ohio colleges and universities will attend with Kent hosting for the first time.
