Ed Shelton, writer and director of No Time For Classes, told the Student Council he will not head NTFC due to scheduling and venue problems. He cited Auditorium use, gym safety, limited bleachers, rain risk, wiring costs, and only $300 funding. He noted auditions were strong but four day May run seems unlikely.
High school industrial arts teachers from 17 counties will meet in the Arts building Friday April 13. The event includes a building tour with shop demonstrations and a Union dinner where Dewey F. Barich will speak. An estimated 100 to 150 attendees are expected.
Sandy Weiss, chair of the elections committee, says today is the final day to register. Petitions for candidates must be turned in at the Booster booth by noon Friday.
Two ROTC honoraries Scabbard and Blade and the Pershing Rifles hold a retreat in front of the library at 5 p.m. The event features the presentation of a commanders sword from Pershing Rifles to Scabbard and Blade, with Lt. Col. Mandell and captains Brown and LaPrad in attendance. Over 50 members are expected to participate in a review and inspection. The sword, adorned with the fourragere, is presented to Capt. Leon Sample by Capt. Charles Race. donated by Sgt. Lee C. Duncan who found it in Germany.
Students are asked to observe clinic hours at the Student Health Center from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 30 to 4 45 p m. Dr Arville O De Weese notes many students come between 12 and 1 30 p m when no doctors are on duty. emergencies can access a doctor at all hours.
Rev. Frederick E. Welfle president of John Carroll University opposes the new draft test deferment plan. He cites four flaws including no regard for current high school seniors, no testing for graduates, no firm obligation for deferment to serve later, and the exam's failure to measure character and leadership. He urges deferment decisions be left to local draft boards.
Regina E Hanway announces tickets for Die Fledermaus on April 18 are sold out causing the Cleveland trip to shift to April 17 to feature La Traviata. Those with Die Fledermaus tickets may request refunds if unable to attend. The group meets at 5 15 behind the library for transportation and remaining tickets are available.
E. J. Thomas, president of Good year Tire and Rubber, will discuss Present Day Trends in Industry on Wednesday April 18 at 10 a.m. in the auditorium. The speech, sponsored by the Society for the Advancement of Management, is open to the public. Thomas is an Akron Central high school alumnus and Akron University graduate.
University officials faculty and students respond in mixed views after General MacArthur is removed from all commands. A survey shows roughly equal approval and disapproval with concerns on information gaps and policy implications.
A celebration on Friday features Yma Sumac recordings in the Arts Gallery second floor Kent Hall and a continuous screening of Rio Escondido in the auditorium from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This replaces the previously printed 1 to 3 p.m. time.
