Five central committees of the University student government will elect representatives to the Student Council and related bodies next week. Elections need a president’s written permission, and seniors are ineligible. Meetings span Monday to Friday in Merrill Hall rooms 204 or 20z.
Miss Margaret Hubbell Brimfield high school principal will chair a Delta Kappa Gamma meeting on selecting students for teacher training institutes. Assisting host Edna Hisen and guests include Grace Sherrer and Isabelle Hazen at 126 Wilson Avenue.
Tom Harris, president, announces a freshman class meeting to set plans for the year. The meeting is Monday April 13 at 4 pm in room 317 McGilvrey Hall and full attendance is required to finalize arrangements.
Thelma Hilby a liberal arts freshman at the university is confined to the infirmary with mumps and reported to be recovering.
Howard Doehla program chairman announced the proposed May show is cancelled due to conflicting dates on the university calendar. The event featured student and faculty talent with funds supporting the Penny drive. All future rehearsals are also cancelled.
The seventh annual Thespian one act drama festival for northeastern Ohio high schools will be held here April 17 and 18. Prof G Harry Wright director announced. The festival expands to 18 schools with sessions Friday and Saturday. Competing schools include Smithville Dalton Doylestown Shreve Leetonia Greensburg Mineral Ridge Brookfield Alliance Salem Minerva Dover Gerard Edgewood Ashtabula McKinley Lehman. Memory sponsors Ohio Speech League and Thespians. Wright will judge the central district festival in Columbus April 24 and 25.
One hundred three music groups from area high schools converge on the University and Kent Roosevelt high school for a two day festival. Roy D. Metcalf notes judging panels from Oberlin to Pittsburgh and two band and choral winners advance to state competition in Columbus. No national contest this year.
The 1942 war economy panel discussion on WADC Akron features Dr. Harry Wolfe Raymond Moran and Harold Nissley of the business administration faculty. They examine the consumer’s role amid shortages and argue against hoarding while addressing retailer prospects and sustaining business in wartime.
Miss Mona Fletcher associate professor of political science will address University alumni tonight at the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Didham in Bedford. Mrs Betty Champney alumni secretary will accompany Miss Fletcher. The discussion will cover current news of the University campus.
Interviewer reports mixed views from seven faculty members on a student body idea for a faculty talent show. Most oppose due to time constraints and dignity concerns, with only Dr John Cuber suggesting a feasible path combining talent and burlesque or revising last year’s party.
Professor E. Turner Stump will travel to Charleston West Virginia Saturday morning to serve as a judge for a Thespian one act play contest. He will judge in the afternoon and evening sessions before returning to Burton Ohio to preach at the First Congregational church Sunday morning service.
Mary Beth Nass was elected president of the University YWCA last night. Peg Curry became vice president with Georgia Hutton as secretary and Jean Garee as treasurer. Ruth Renz was named area representative. Plans covered attending the Student Industrial conference at Baldwin Wallace April 18 19 and the Leadership Training conference at Bowling Green April 24 26.
Adrian Van Wyen, coordinator for Civilian Pilot training, said yesterday the navy will terminate the present class V-7 program about May 1. The Bureau of Navigation announced that future entrants will only join through the class V-1 accredited college program.
