Doris Meredith celebrated her tenth birthday last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mr and Mrs J H Meredith. Birthday party for Linnda Hubbell on sixth birthday

Mrs Frank Hubbell hosted a July 9 party at their suburban home for Linnda Hubbell turning six. Guests arrived at 6 00 pm with patriotic decor and a name register. Prizes went to Kathy Peay and Marvel Ann Skaggs for games, gifts were opened at 7 30 pm, and a flag themed cake with punch and candy was served.

Fishermen Host Friends at July 4 Big Fish Fry

Mr and Mrs O E Morgan and Mr and Mrs Roy Trimble honored friends with a fish fry on the Oliver ranch on July 4. They opened the catfish season by catching a 51 pound and an 18 pound catfish on July 1 along with smaller fish. Numerous couples and families attended the meal with barbecued meats and trimmings.

Mexicans Honored At Church Party In Mission Group

The Intermediate and Young People's group of the Mission Sunday School for Mexicans, sponsored by a local Baptist Church, held a lawn party Monday night. Attendees included Max Sanchez and many others, with refreshments and games at the Memorial Building. Several Baptist workers attended, while director Bernice Kindrick was absent due to illness.

Farewell lawn party honors Sue and Mary Ann Gregory

The Methodist Sunday School children’s department held a farewell lawn party for Sue and Mary Ann Gregory at the annex last Thursday. Activities were led by Mrs. Howard Ragsdill with prizes for bean carrying on a knife and a peppermint sack. Ice cream and cookies were served to a long list of attendees including Kenneth Craven, Marvel Ann Skaggs, Lenore Loeffler, Linnda Hubbell, and the honorees, with numerous mothers present.

Leon Turner Honored With Picnic Supper

Honor given to Leon Turner at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Cal Turner on July 2. Turner recently returned from Trinidad where he served as airplane technician and is temporarily at Keesler Field Mississippi for aerial cadet training. Ice cream and cake followed table games and a long list of attendees were served. A second item notes a new method for treating cotton with synthetic resins to produce a fibrous material for clothing without weaving.

Tire Shortage Warns Kimble County Motorists

W E Bolt says a letter from rubber administrator W M Jeffers confirms a serious Grade A passenger tire shortage. The War Price and Rationing Board urges tire inspectors to withhold certificates from overused tires as the public waits for tires to become available.

Tire conservation plea for wartime rubber shortage

A speaker urges motorists to preserve existing tires to keep cars moving during the wartime rubber shortage. He expects relief of the shortage sometime in 1944 as conditions improve.

Many ships launched in June totals and 1943 output

The Maritime Commission reports 168 cargo ships built in June totaling 1 676 500 deadweight tons, down from May’s 175 and April’s 157. First half of 1943 marks 879 ships totaling 8 818 622 deadweight tons. 1942 saw 746 vessels totaling 8 089 732 deadweight tons.
