Big Catfish Haul Reports Start of Season in Kimble County
Open season July 1 sparked large catches as Roy Trimble Scrap Morgan and others report 51 pound and 18 pound catfish on July 1 and 2. C R Kleppel party breaks record with a 61 pound catfish and 28, 8 and smaller fish on July 3. Fred Cox and son James Ray reel 41 pound yellow catfish. all big fish from the Main Liano.

Death Claims Mrs. Sallie Ivy In San Angelo
Mrs. Sallie Ivy a Kimble County ranch pioneer died in San Angelo on Friday July 2 after a brief illness. Burial was in Red Creek Cemetery with funeral services held July 5 in London Community Hall officiated by Rev J E Copeland. Survivors include five children and many relatives. husband and three children predeceased her.

Bert Braley Dies at 50 in Dallas Heart Attack
Former Junction resident Bert Braley died suddenly in Dallas last Friday from a heart attack. Funeral services were held at Hext Texas on Monday July 5. He leaves a wife and daughter and other relatives and was half brother of John Braley and Mrs. Alex Hamer. Mr. and Mrs. Hamer and C. F. Hamer attended.

Strikes Cut Coal Supply Prompt Risk to Winter Stockpiles
Strikes reduced May additions to the nation’s stockpiles to 838000 tons of bituminous coal, Ickes reported. He warned that failing to build stockpiles in spring and summer could worsen shortages next fall and winter.

Kimble County health officer Dr J E Weideman warns residents about infantile paralysis in Texas citing state reports of 39 cases this year and a seven year June average of three. June Rainfall Tops Fourteen Year Average in Hill County
Rain in June slightly exceeds the 14 year average of 2.88 inches in the Hill County. The month had above average rainfall with two wet days and generally cooler temperatures despite a few hot spells. Maximum temperatures over the 14 year span ranged from 96 to 109 degrees with most days staying under 90.
WPB Allocates More Farm Goods for Farm Use
WPB directs additional supplies for farm use including batteries for flashlights radios telephones fence controls ignition stockmen's knives and galvanized pails and tabs. This follows last week's action establishing percentage allocations for over 50 farm items.

Balmorhea selects Ralph Faver as VA supervisor
Ralph C. Faver of Balmorhea is elected by the Balmorhea school board to succeed W. W. Gregory as Vocational Agriculture supervisor. A Texas Tech graduate with seven years of teaching, he organized Balmorhea's VA program and has supported livestock shows. He arrived in Junction to occupy the Gregory home and seeks community help to get acquainted.

Butler enlists in Army Air Corps stationed at Duncan Field
Delmon L. Butler, son of Mr and Mrs Jim Butler, enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 3 1943 in San Antonio. He was assigned to Duncan Field until April 10 then moved to Orlando Florida where he is now stationed. He recently married and visited his parents here.

District Swim Meet Set for August at Junction
The 1943 Ranch District Camp and Swim Meet will be held in Junction during the second week of August with about 125 boys and 30 adult leaders. Troop 20 led by Teddy Holekamp and Frank Hubbell oversaw Camp Fawcett where 180 boys camped for a week. Awards, reviews, and Order of the Arrow elections highlighted the event, with preparations for a camp fire program on Monday evening.
