Public Schools To Get 25 Dollar Per Scholastic Aid
The State Board of Education set a 25 per capita school apportionment for 1943 44 the highest ever under legislative permission to raise from 22 50. A state fund balance of 7 7 million is projected with 37 1 million expected from taxes plus a 38 7 million cost for 1 548 million scholastics. The textbook division will receive 1 6 million next year with 618 thousand on hand.

Nance son of Mr and Mrs Skeete Nance of Animas New Mexico died in an internment camp probably in the Philippine Islands on June 13 He was wounded on December 7 1941 and was a Japanese prisoner since then He is nephew to Gene and Joe Tomberlin and Mrs J W Andrews and Mrs K G Durst The family has little definite information about him

Gene Tomberlin Rides Horseback Around World Record
Gene Tomberlin, pipeline rider for Humble Oil Company, completed 16 years of service on June 24 and has ridden 77 969 miles on a route from Station B in Sutton County to Station C in Bandera County. He makes weekly trips, sleeps in small houses, and has killed 726 rattlesnakes with rocks and sticks.

OSYA Canning Program Ends Due to Funding Shortfall
