A special meeting of the Commissioners Court was held in the County Judge's office Monday with all members present. Roy King qualified as commissioner from precinct 4. Randolph was appointed County Attorney and qualified. Rudolph Becker elected constable also qualified. Road work on South Llano progresses under Hodge and continues up the River as funds allow. Cedar Creek road work may begin this week. Copperas road to be improved as funds permit. Officials plan to publish a tax funds statement once taxes are in. Local visitors from the east end assured priority in funding. Val Mains and Sidney Ramsey visited.
The Parent- Teachers met Monday at 4 PM in the school auditorium with few parents due to bad weather. After a reading by Mrs. H. O. Patterson, minutes were approved, a short business session followed, and a vote to donate for a library addition and to buy two large auditorium pictures. The fourth and sixth grades received pot plants for the largest parental turnout before adjournment.
A residence owned by Mrs Wharton about a mile northwest of town burned Sunday afternoon likely from a stove fire. few valuables saved, water scarcity hindered efforts. Also announced in brief word of Clay Holland and Ava Chapman wedding in Menard with Rev Arnspiger officiating and a Dallas Style Show trip for local residents Vera James Elizabeth Patterson and Joan Wilson to attend.
Heyman Drug Store adds a mechanically operated Frigid Air System fountain with 49 gallons of ice cream capacity and dual draft arms for multiple clerks. The Dallas mechanic installed the unit this week and carbonated water cools through ice brine before serving.
The Light Water and Telephone Company recently bought a large Conld Triplex Pump with a 15 999 gallons per hour capacity. It weighs over 4200 pounds and needs 15 to 20 horsepower to operate. Delivery arrived last week and installation will occur soon to improve town water supply. The next improvement anticipated is a 6 or 8 inch main to the business district.
Local fur buyers indicate strong demand with Schrein er Hodges Co reporting about $3,500 in fur purchases since January. The busiest day last Saturday saw over $950 worth of furs bought, illustrating a growing market in the county.
The Lester Hodges ranch of about 4600 acres was sold to Dr. Moody of San Antonio for 34000 in cash plus 1100 head of Hodges sheep bought at 8 each. Deal negotiated through Ek Holekamp of Junction and a San Antonio realty firm. Frank McMillan and wife of Calvert visited Junction. McMillan formerly county Demonstration Agent and credited with aiding farmers and ranchers. H W Bierschwale, a Noxville ranchman, reported his area faces dry conditions but livestock hold up with some cattle feeding underway.
