Census Bureau figures show 2,637,078 autos manufactured in 1924 in the United States and Canada. Passenger cars totaled 3,261,682 and 375,396 trucks were built, based on data from 166 plants. The 1923 totals differed due to scope changes in the compilations.
The Eagle notes livestock sales reported by John R. Martin. Sterling Baker sold to Doc Joy two young goats at 7 dollars each. W. J. Coleman sold to T. C. Black 150 nanny goats at 3.50. B. T. Joiner sold to Frank McMillan 135 young nanny goats at 5 dollars each. McMillan will ship to Milam County farm and test them, planning to buy more if successful.
A proposed 10 percent tax on cigarettes and cigars would fund Texas education. Governor Ferguson supports the plan, seen as a fair luxury tax aiding schooling, though critics fear opposition. The idea argues wealthier smokers can shoulder tax while helping farm youths’ education.

Will Thomas, staying at the McKee ranch, suffered a severe gunshot wound to the left arm when his shotgun discharged after slipping from a running board. The accident occurred at Chalk Creek. medical aid was given and he is expected to recover use of his arm in a few weeks.
