Missouri to furnish a brigade of field artillery
Missouri plans to provide one brigade of field artillery in the national guard with two regiments totaling about 2,500 enlisted men. Eight new batteries were authorized, three in Kansas City and five in St. Louis, to be ready for a Southern training camp August 5. Existing batteries will serve as nuclei for expansion. Battery A in St. Louis, Battery B in Kansas City, and Battery C in Independence include men trained on the Mexican border. Battery D in Kansas City was organized recently, so personnel will be redistributed among the new units. Kansas City gains a full regiment’s worth of artillery for national defense, while St. Louis must recruit five more batteries. In addition to the three new batteries, KC must provide headquarters, supply companies, and a band for the regiment. Fulton minister's wife dies, Mrs Lara Lee Scarborough, 45, wife of Rev. W. L.
