The Mason merchant offers a pony, vehicle and harness as a prize to the child receiving the most votes. Votes are earned with purchases at five votes per five cents. Beginning Saturday extra votes are offered with every dollar in cash or produce. Each dollar on account adds 5000 votes to the tally. Catalog votes continue unchanged.

Jefferson Highway Relay Run passed Jasper at 2 a.m. Tuesday after leaving Kansas City Monday in rain and mud. Carrthage reported arrival around 3 a.m. as runners went through Jasper without waking residents, keeping to schedule to reach Joplin by Tuesday morning.
The Woman's Home Missionary Angiety of the M. I. Church will hold a parcel post sale in the Dr. Hendricks building on Saturday May 26. In addition to parcels, a crafts sale will be held to raise funds for local society pledges supporting causes in the wider world.
Sheriff Ol Rowers reports full instructions for federal military registration set for June 5 with registration in voting precincts. Volunteers will staff registrars, paid if necessary, under sheriff, county clerk, and county physician supervision. Anyone 21 to 60 must register, with questions on disabilities noted but not automatic disqualification. Carthage Press report.
Regular meeting at Secretary Webb's office discussed payments for Jefferson Highway pole painting, graveling Morrison and Park streets, and near Warmers Elevator. Farmers Elevator paid Deenhta for gravel. W T Simmons authorized to drag and repair road near the north bridge and to cut brush west of the Northwest Creek line.

Pupils and teachers of Jasper Schools finish the 1917 term entering vacation. The week featured Boccalatrrente exercises at the M In Church and a Thursday commencement with State Senator L Moore as speaker. A Friday picnic for eighth grade and high school followed, ending with the alumni banquet at Nunnellys hall where officers for the new year were elected.
The Claude Martin home three miles east of Dasper was hit by a lightning bolt at about 11 p.m. Monday May 21. The bolt entered the roof and ran down a wall near the upstairs sleeping area where a hired man and five Martin children were located, causing plaster damage and a brief shock to those present. No serious injuries occurred.
A heavy Monday night wind toppled one of the town’s oldest maples in John Spaid’s front yard. The tree, planted by Prank Hendricks years ago, was linked to the Hendricks family, with Prank and the late A U Hendricks noted as brothers.
The marriage of Mises Qmn Webb daughter of Bert Webb and his wife to George Henry Mart son of Ho Fart was announced. The wedding is planned for Wednesday May 20 as the bride’s parents host the event.
Jasper Masonic Cemetery stockholders and others are asked to meet at the cemetery on Monday morning in May to clean the grounds. Bring scythes lawn mowers and rakes. Trustees invite participation to maintain the site.
