New Football Field Under Construction Near School
During summer a new football field east of the school building was under construction. Mr. Walker and coaches surveyed the site with Mr. Burke. A bulldozer donated by El Paso Natural Gas Co leveled the field. Boys were employed to destump and lay out the stadium with a 440 yd track and bleachers on both sides and planned lighting for games.

Santa Fe Municipal Schools elect two returning officers
T. C. Bird returned from service is the new superintendent of Santa Fe Municipal Schools and took the post July 1. He previously led the Hobbs high school. He succeeds R. P. Sweeney. J. Milford, also a veteran, becomes high school principal, after leading Leah Harvey Junior High. Greiner pursues a doctorate at USC.

Matched Roping Contest Sponsored by American Legion
A roping contest at the fal roping arena Sunday September 22 featured calf roping matches. Buddy Fort of Lovington New Mexico and Earl Teague of Crane Texas tied eight calves each with Teague 0.3 seconds behind. Sam Beckam beat Ralph Parrott with 147 seconds to 151.1. A team tying event followed with Jimmie Ware first at 28.3 seconds, Robert Madera second at 29.7, and Chester Crook third at 47 seconds. Fowler Hair announced as the crowd heard calf sounds from the judge’s stand.

Pomona pump ordered to replace failing unit. Trash hauling debated and 21 delinquent accounts to lawyer for collection to ensure sanitation.
