Ely Faces Death Penalty After Deliberation
Charles W. Ely Jr an 18 year old of Winkler County faces execution by electric chair after a jury deliberated about 20 hours over the shooting of Earl Burkett. The trial opened Tuesday with witnesses including Bill Eddins Persce Nottingham and Sheriff F I Dyer. Ely testified blaming the shooting on an officer and claimed he did not intend to kill.
