Mrs J L Burke hosted Jal Bridge Club and local teachers at her home for four bridge tables. High scores went to Mrs J W Cowan among guests and Mrs A H Adams among club members. Prizes were given at each table. refreshments of shrimp salad and fruit punch followed.
W B Carew of Wink has opened the Modern Garage in the old Andrews building west of Main Street. The shop offers guaranteed work on cars trucks tractors and pumps. Carew is known in the area from two years with Standard Oil at Wink and ten years with the company.
Kathleen McKeown led the choral club in I Passed by Your Window, Helen Lindsay delivered the valedictory, and Dr. Claude C. Dove of New Mexico A. & M. College offered the commencement address. Superintendent Burke announced honors, M. M. Rogers awarded diplomas, and the Jal High School Band played the recessional as seniors departed.
The Republican county chairman E. E. Pittman appoints the Republican member of the board under law. County chairmen make the selections and commissioners confirm them. The board will appoint one Democrat and one Republican per precinct to canvass that precinct for permanent registration records.
The Baker High School graduating class includes 18 seniors: Wilma Brock Ernest Butler Marjorie Cannon Helen Lindsay Marjorie McKeown Carl Marshall Bernard Murray Louie Neville Homer Pender Charles Phillips Bobbie Nell Post Roscoe Sousares Jr Jimmy Pucatt and Orval Carr Billie Jean Clayton and Kathleen Daves.
Field notes detail multiple drilling efforts across sections 32 to 28 in 24s-37e and nearby ranges. Entries include spudding and rigging up auxiliary wells at Woolworth and Langlie sites, varying depths from 500 to 3,498 feet, with completions yielding 236 to 320 barrels in short runs.

Mrs. J H Heffner hosted a surprise shower for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pyeatt and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kimmel as they prepare to relocate to Medina Valley this week. Guests brought farewell gifts while ice cream and cake were served. Rev T M McClendon and several families attended, including J C l and Gwendolyn, S P Cooper, Fred Cooper, J B Pyeatt, Milton Seaton, James Bennett, J D Pyeatt family, Court ney, Lois Broadway, R L Petty, M A Petty, Willie Page, and Gene Woods.
Mr and Mrs Bill Eaton left for Cheyenne Wyoming to attend the World's largest rodeo. They will travel across the United States this summer to join roping events. Eaton is noted as a skilled roper with many prizes to his name.
