Lawrence Pyeatt Is Crippled In Play Accident

Lawrence Pyeatt, a second grader, is recovering from a fractured leg after an arrow from a playmate shot into a wooden awning, the structure collapsing and pinning him. The other boy escaped with minor injuries and Lawrence expects to return to school soon.

Fler noy Biddle Rebreaks Leg Again After Snow Slip

Mr Flernoy Biddle broke his leg last February 4 and after healing he rebroke the same leg December 31 slipping on snow while entering his garage. He was treated at Kermit hospital and is improving.

The school nurse has inspected 286 students in six grades checking tonsils teeth height weight rash and health habits. Growth charts in rooms help parents and children track monthly weight and encourage proper eating. Next week Dr O E Puckett from Carlsbad will perform medical exams on fifth tenth and twelfth graders.

Accident Victims Recovering After Hobbs Christmas Crash

In Hobbs on Christmas Eve an automobile crash injured several people. Salley Wray has a leg injury and uses crutches. Robert Hadley crushed foot and recovering. Wayne Harris not seriously injured and recovering. Herschel Armstrong and Helen Montgomery suffered broken legs and are recovering. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Peacock recovered from scratches and bruises.

Jal Mayor and Council Meet on Rates and Repairs

The Jal mayor and council set lower trash hauling rates effective Jan 1 1947 with first bill under new rate on Feb 1 1947. They plan parking markings and traffic sign repairs, note water line fixes from freezes, and request emergency water system aid from the New Mexico State Comptroller.

Movie on Wild Life Shown to Students and Local Trigonometry Class

A January 7 wildlife film shown in Rava Hall for high school and junior high students was presented by S W Simmons Artesia District Deputy Game Warden and Homer C Pickens Santa Fe Assistant State Game Warden. The film covered fish beavers elk beaver propagation antelope hunting and mountain lion behavior emphasizing conservation and viewer cooperation with laws and property.

Cows and Horses Herded From the Air by Two Pilots

Jal pilots Torchy Justis and Malcolm Madera describe driving cows and horses from the air. Justis reports guiding six cows from a large pasture to a small one amid a stormy ordeal. Madera notes occasional cattle that bolt on approach and the need to fly within three or four feet. His nephew Ross Easterlin recalls a sickening experience. Horses prove tougher as Old Chum defies closer passes.

Airplane Hangar Under Construction At El Paso Field

A 30 by 100 foot airplane hangar is being built on the airfield by Torchy Justis. It will house Mr Justis Taylorcraft and provide space for an office and four planes including tenants Malcolm Madera Paul Troutt and El Paso Natural Gas Co.

Christmas visit ends with icy roads and frozen lakes

Mr and Mrs Kenneth B Walker traveled to Bowie Texas to visit his parents over the Christmas holidays. They stayed ten days. Walker could not fish as all lakes were frozen and they warmed themselves by the fire. On return the roads were iced over and driving proved dangerous and tedious.

Church of God Starts Revival in Hagerman

Rev. Hilton Vail of the Church of God began a revival on January 16 with services at 7 15 each night. Evangelist Mrs. Georgia Kerwin of Hagerman New Mexico traveled with Mr and Mrs A Mulex. He predicted two weeks of services with at least two special songs nightly.

William F. Johnson Dies At Hi Service Station

William Frederick Johnson died suddenly on December 26 at the Hi Service Station. Four years earlier while diving for a circus in Big Spring Texas he suffered serious injuries later believed to contribute to his death. Funeral services were arranged in Missouri by his father. Johnson worked for Blount-Phillips Company of Jal.

Convention Held At Hobbs District Church Of God

A district Church of God convention was held at Hobbs on January 15 with attendees from Jal including Rev. and Mrs. Hilton Vail and their three sons Junior Joe and John Mr. and Mrs. T. M. McCoy and their two children Shelby and Marlene Mr. and Mrs. D. S. McCoy Mrs. R. L. Petty and her two daughters Mary Lois and Marjorie Mr. F. B. Cooper and Mr. Lewis Curry.
