Returns received during December for the tuberculosis fund total 248.75 with $96.00 from December 1 to 5, 67.00 from December 6 to 9, 52.00 from December 10 to 13, and 33.75 from December 13 to 20. more money and seals expected in the final days of the month.

Health notes on Jal school vaccination drive

The Jal school nursing program under Miss Mary BeDell reports 41 diphtheria protections 39 Schick tests 36 smallpox vaccinations. Aiming for near 100 percent immunization under New Mexico law, with second shots scheduled for January 20 and February 10 for those immunized in November and December. No diphtheria cases at Jal so far, and early protection hoped to curb outbreaks.

Freshmen Stage Play By Class Ensemble

The Freshman class presented a play titled What Became of Tom Boy Joe on Friday December 20. Marvelyn Stanley starred as Tom Boy Joe with Richard Higgins and Barbara Anderson singing solos. A male quartet including Bobby Hurta Barry Pender Lloyd Fink and Harold Gene Gillit performed Jingle Bells inverted. The closing number had the audience and Mrs Smith join in She ll Be Coming Round the Mountain.

Max Miller of Jal High School’s Junior class was elected President of the Student Council on Wednesday December 18 by about forty votes. He appears on the high honor roll every six weeks and is a basketball team member with radio listening as a hobby.

Freshman Speech Class Holds Christmas Party

Freshman speech class held a party in the English room on Thursday December 19. Pauline Embry opened with Silent Night. Lloyd Fink read Christmas scriptures and Dear Belle Humphreys recited The Night Before Christmas. A staged Scrooge and The Christmas Fairy featured Larry Poage Wayne Ellis and more. The cast included Pauline Embry Martha Cratchet and others. After the play the group sang carols led by Poage Hedgepeth Mitchell and Anderson. Bobby Hurta chaired the refreshment committee and gifts were exchanged.

Crash Destroys Films In Early Morning Spill

An agency film truck veered into an embankment at 5 a m on December 11 and ruptured film cans, scattering reels as rain ruined many. The sleeping driver was a substitute for the ill regular driver, and the damaged films will not affect Jal, as they were outgoing.

Duke Montague and Company magicians will appear in a Friday assembly at 9 am. They perform in schools theatres clubs hospitals and army camps across the United States Canada and Mexico. Mrs Montague known as Myrnya the Memory Lady presents numbers such as In a Magician's Garden and other feats.
