Plans for Flying School Approved
Clifford Burnie of the Veterans Administration approved plans for a veterans flying school on January 31. Malcolm Madera, a World War II Naval Air Corps veteran, will be director with 7000 hours of flight time and prior instruction. Veterans may enroll at no cost under the GI Bill. Thief Misses Cash In Desk Drawer At Hobbs Theater
On January 19 in Hobbs a thief entered the Reel Theater building after Jean Hearne left $375 cash receipts in a desk drawer of the Rex Theater office. Five desk drawers were rifled while the sixth held the money. Hearne noted the thief showed a lack of thoroughness.

Pooch Saves Baby From Cess Pool Incident
On January 26 at 3 o clock Marilyn Janet Justis aged 2 played in a yard with Pooch the dog owned by Mr. K B Walker. The dog drew attention to an empty cess pool where Marilyn fell in. Pooch danced around the hole until Marilyn’s mother Mrs D W Justis and a bystander rescued the child.

Girl Scout Association Sets Local Funds and Training Plans
The Girl Scout Association of Jal met January 28 at Mrs. Halley Ray’s home. Presiding was Mrs. Brooks Brininstool who led a vote to send 50 dollars to the area fund and keep other local funds to send leaders to a Santa Fe training school next August. They aim to provide uniforms with half the cost funded by the association and appointed a committee to inspect the Boy Scout Hut for possible improvements to aid Youth Activity. An institute on camping was scheduled for February 11 in Hobbs, with attendance urged for leaders and members. New officers elected include Brininstool president and W. H. Justis executive vice president.
