Superior court met the regular term with Judge Beck presiding. The grand jury may recommend a county court. Court adjourned to the first Monday in November to sit in the new courthouse at 8 30. Civil business first two days, criminal docket Wednesday. Verdicts and pleas listed: Pitts gaming forty dollars or twelve months. Cook three cases riot shooting concealed weapons thirty months. Will King gaming forty dollars twelve months. Jim King concealed weapons fifty dollars twelve months. Will Young larceny twelve months. Lank Barber pistol not guilty. Nick Weaver no bill released.
The sudden death of Rev. G H Carter at Greenville South Carolina on the 9th instant after a train journey from Jackson followed a heart attack brought on by indigestion. Carter, pastor of the Jackson church and moderator of the Kimble Association, was noted for piety leadership and public service in anti whisky campaigns. Funeral held at Greenville with Jackson church delegation in attendance.
