The notice announces the opening of the fall term 1898 on Tuesday August 30 with thorough faculty and strong musical advantages. Parents are urged to enroll children on the first day of the term.
Miss Annie Stilwell and Miss Barnes will form the music and elocution faculty at Jackson Institute. Stilwell, a New Orleans Conservatory graduate, previously led music at Young Harris College and was head of the music department at North Georgia Agricultural College.
A dated testimonial from Griffin Georgia dated November 15 1897 touts Thrash's Lung Restorer as a long standing remedy since 1875. W H Boyce credits it with aiding bronchial and lung diseases for 28 years and keeping an elderly mother alive.

The New York store undergoes major repairs with the entire front of three rooms removed for glass replacement. It will be a handsome job when finished under the supervision of Mr. John McKenzie.
T M Manley of Griffin reports in The Argus that a horse racing event is planned at the Griffin track soon likely drawing horse men and attendees from Jackson around August 27.
The Argus predicted a major cotton buyer would enter the market, and Thomas H. Buttrill is now announced to be in Jackson this season with headquarters at the Globe Store Lampkins old stand. He brings extensive cotton experience and aims to boost his growing reputation as a determined hustler.
The Jackson Furniture Company buys the furniture and undertaking business from R. N. Etheridge and will operate at Hitchins corner. Oscar Willis will join for at least twelve months. The new company will be chartered by the superior court and remain distinct from the New York Store. Bob Etheridge returns to Carmichael Co. as dry goods manager.
The ad promotes De Witt's Little Early Risers as pleasant and thorough pills that cure constipation and sick headache. It credits Dr. W. L. Carmichael and suggests reliable, easy relief through regular use.
Mr. R. N. Etheridge has secured a large, well lighted room from Dr. Mays to display coffins and undertaker’s goods. The Jackson Furniture Co. remains ahead in all its departments, with continued progress noted.
A new partnership of W. W. Wright and R. Brown announces the formation of Wright & Co. to enter the dry goods business at Crum corner. The partners are well known and popular locally and promise an elegant stock and strong patronage drive.

A glowing midsummer gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Smith features music led by Mr. Harold Griffin and Miss Buttrill. Guests, led by Miss Smith in white, enjoy games, supper, photographs, and brimful hospitality before departing near midnight with the memory of a dreamlike evening.
