Central Georgia Power Plans Wide Improvements Soon

Central Georgia Power Company announces extensive improvements within the next few weeks with additional work already underway. The plan details ongoing system upgrades and expansion efforts to enhance service reliability for customers across the region.

Big Power Plant Upgrades Near Jackson In Butts County

Extensive improvements and increased capacity planned for the eight mile distant power plant on the Ocmulgee river. Two new generators will raise capacity from 16 000 to 24 000 horsepower, forming six generators total. Current output is 12 000 kilowatts with 11 500 kilowatts sold to Macon Atlanta Jackson Griffin Forsyth Monticello and Barnesville. Also an overhaul of the dummy railroad line from Bibb station to the dam will enable transport of new machinery and materials. Stockholders approved the plan at the February annual meeting.

W. B. Gresham of Flovilla was in the city on Wednesday, visiting contacts and handling errands. His appearance was noted by local residents and merchants.

1913 Pensions Paid in Butts County

Judge J. H. Ham Ordinary of Butts county paid 1913 pensions totaling 6180 dollars by Saturday night and 8505 dollars by Friday night. State funds arrived Wednesday morning with 38371.50 from Fulton county as special taxes for January February and March. The pension checks were issued promptly to those due, easing the wait for beneficiaries.

Cochran enters race for U.S. Senate in 1914

Atlanta April 17 Ralph O Cochran Representative elect from Fulton County and head of the Ralph O Cochran Real Estate Company announces his candidacy for the United States Senate in 1914 to succeed Senator Hoke Smith. Cochran a Campbell county native educated at Oxford University and Washington and Lee moved to Atlanta in 1898 and built a major real estate and business career. He organized and led the Atlanta Real Estate Board and served as its president, led the Young Men’s Democratic League, and was elected to the Legislature from Fulton County in 1912.

Steamboat trips arranged for Confederate reunion

Chattanooga Tennessee April 17 arrangements will be made for steamboat trips during the Confederate reunion May 27 29 to the mammoth dam and power plant on the Tennessee river near Chattanooga. The plant will cost about 20 million dollars when completed and will supply electric current to 56 000 horsepower for Chattanooga factories and interurban lines. The trip offers scenic views along the river with mountains on both sides and peaks of Signal Mountain.

Death of W S Hardy Former County Coroner

W S Hardy aged 63 died at his Worthville area home last Thursday. A former county coroner, he was active in the community and survived by his wife four children and three brothers. Funeral service was held at Mace donia church where he was a member.

Rufus Maddox Dies at 76 in Cedar Rock Area

Rufus Maddox died at his daughter's home in Jackson at age 76. Funeral services were held today at 11 o'clock with burial in the family burying ground near Cedar Rock. He was the father of Jack Maddox of Jackson.
