Georgia corn growers offered 600 dollars in prizes

The Georgia State Agricultural Society and American National Bank of Macon announce a 600 prize contest for corn yields to be judged at the Georgia State Fair in Macon October 21 31 1913. Open to all white residents of Georgia with prizes for uplands and bottom lands and required affidavits and records. Butts county farmers expected to enter.

Col W E Watkins to Deliver Memorial Address for April 26

Larkin D Watson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy held a Thursday meeting at Vice President Mrs S O Ham's home to finalize plans for Memorial Day. Col W E Watkins agreed to deliver the commemorative address at the public exercises at the court house. Confederate graves will be decorated with flowers and a free lunch will be offered to veterans. Butts County Farmers Union holds its usual monthly meeting today.

Tolleson Dies at McDonough Home

Jackson friends learn of the death of H. M. Tolleson at his McDonough home on Tuesday morning. He was 55, survived by a wife and five children, and had been in declining health but not confined to bed. The death was unexpected. Judge J. H. Ham and state figures visited or were in Atlanta. J. H. Mills and Ike Middlebrooks were seen with Jackson friends Wednesday.

Delegates Sought For Elberton Convention

The call seeks at least three delegates besides the pastor and superintendent, with all attendees at Elberton becoming delegates by paying a fifty cent registration. Registrants will be provided homes by the Elberton Committee. Railroads offer low round trip rates to encourage wide state representation.

Banks Blame Poor Printers for Missing Publications

State banks faced penalties totaling 300 000 for failing to file proof of publication with the State Treasury Department by February 25. Many offered excuses via apologetic letters blaming mail, misunderstanding, or printers, while most Butts county banks were spared from the issue.

Gospel Meetings at Baptist Church Begin Next Monday

Protracted services led by Dr. J. L. White of Macon start at the Baptist church next Monday with afternoon 3:30 and evening 7:30 sessions. Drs. White and Van Deventer are assisted by Mr. D. W. Milam and a chorus conducting singing.

Jackson Rifles Plan Ten Day Camp at St Simons

The Jackson Rifles plan a ten day camp on St Simons Island around July tenth. Dr J H Twiggs of Hampton Florida spent several days this week with his sister Mrs J Lee Byron.
