Village bans trespassing at reservoir by 3 2 vote

At a long meeting the Village Board approved a harsh ordinance banning all trespassing at the Harrriman Road reservoir except water department and official village personnel. Trustees Arnold and Stevenson dissented citing overreach. Police urged enforcement and alternative options were discussed for protecting the water supply.

Irvington High to Graduate 94 Seniors on June 21

Irvington High School will graduate 94 seniors with ceremonies Saturday at 7:00 p.m. on the school lawn, moving indoors if rain. Speakers are class members Mark Koskinen, William Myers, and Mary Ellen Redmond, led by class president Thomas Kelly. Reverend Jenkins and Reverend Wash deliver invocation and benediction.

School Board proposes budget cut to defeat tax rise

The Board of Education unveils a revised budget totaling $51,000 less than the defeated plan. It sets a tax rate at 43.95, down 1.02 from the earlier budget but still 6.74 above last year. A special meeting next Thursday will vote on the proposal from 1 pm to 9 pm at Main Street School auditorium.

Seaman Tobin Serves Aboard USS Newport News

Seaman Arthur M. Tobin USN, husband of Irene Hlywa of Yonkers, serves aboard the heavy cruiser USS Newport News. The ship hosted Secretary of the Navy John H. Chafee during a Southeast Asia gunline tour to observe naval gunfire support and underway refueling, with assistance from Charles A. Bowsher and Vice Admiral W. F. Bringle of the Seventh Fleet.

Manhattanville Degree For Mrs D Holden

Wilma Holden of Deertrack Lane earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at Manhattanville College Purchase during the 128th Commencement held on a Saturday in May. Her husband Donald Holden edits art books for Watson Guptill in New York City. she specialized in social studies and previously taught at Hudson River School in Irvington. The Holdens have two children, Wendy 12 and Blake 9.

LWV Urges Voters to Vote On School Budget

The Irvington League of Women Voters asks all eligible voters to vote on the School Budget Thursday June 26 from 1 to 9 pm at Main Street School. Apartments without children are now eligible, and a Supreme Court decision may allow 21 year old singles living with parents to vote. The local Board awaits state notice to accept these votes. watch papers or contact the Board beforehand.
