Irvington real estate activity accelerates with two recent sales. Charles W. Ferguson of Ossining will move into a Cedar Lawn Road home on July 1, after purchase from Maurice H. Ree and Sons. The other sale is Alfred E. Kraus selling the No 55 Main Street store to Thomas F. Reilly of New York.

MacGowan to lead in Maverick Theatre season opener

Bliss MacGowan will star in The Play's the Thing by Ferenc Molnar inaugurating Maverick Theatre season with a June 23 24 25 opening. The Maverick Season runs to September 5 featuring weekly symphony concerts Sunday chamber music recitals art exhibits and weekly plays Thursday to Saturday.

Irvington Children Win Certificates for Reading Books

Irvington Public Library awarded 255 certificates to pupils who read ten books, with stars for every five additional titles. Awards distributed across Grade 8 to Grade 2 at Irvington and East Irvington schools, and parochial school, listing recipients and books read.

Irvington Pastor MacGowan Poem Promised in Book Form

The Irvington literary figure Rev Dr Robert MacGowan plans to publish an 1800 page poem It Came to Pass also titled Love Incorporate next week The work in Spencerian verse chronicles Abraham and Angelo in a tale of upward struggle toward peace and brotherhood The piece marks his ninth book since arriving in Irvington five years ago and features extensive biographical details of his education travels and community honors including the National Poetry Award and numerous church and literary positions

Seven year old Mary Lyle Pitner Holds Up Rex Farewell

Mary Lyle Pitner seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs W Hynes Pitner of Ardsley Terrace was found ashore after becoming separated from her party aboard the Italian liner Rex during a farewell visit. The ship carried 1519 passengers as more than 10000 visitors gathered at the West Fifty Second Street pier.

60 Pound Snapping Turtle Rescued on Lewis Road

A 60-pound snapping turtle near Addison J Hastings home was brought to Irvington police this week. On Isabel K Tenjamin’s suggestion from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals the creature was released back to its habitat near the reservoir. Patrolman Peter A Dorey said the turtle was brought to headquarters by people who feared it might harm children at play nearby. Mr and Mrs Henry M Bufkin of Spiro Park are spending a month in Texas.

Mrs Browning Heads Robins Nest Board of Managers

Mrs Henry K Browning was elected president of the Robins Nest board at its annual meeting. Mrs Henry V D Black was reelected vice president and Mrs Charles T Newberry second vice president. The Nest, founded in 1891 to aid crippled and undernourished children, operates with a staff of nurses, a cook, laundress, and support workers.

Chub Pateman Hurt In Irvington AllStars Game

Charles Chub Pateman of Barneys Park, catcher for Irvington AllStars, injured Sunday at Memorial Park during a game with Ossining Naval Reserve. X-rays reveal torn cartilage around the knee cap. he is in Dobbs Ferry Hospital under Dr. William R. Roane and may return home this weekend unless surgery is needed. The injury followed a collision with Irvington first baseman Robert Nilsson while chasing a fly ball. He was scoped at the field by Dr. Roane and then taken to the hospital.

Kindergarten Plans Program for June 29 at Irvington School
