An editorial lauds Dobbs Ferry for adopting a waste disposal charge on stores and industrial firms, arguing it could set a model for nearby communities. The Irvington Public Schools music department will host its annual Christmas Concert on Monday at 8 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. Participants include the Treble Choir, Junior High Chorus, High School Choir, and Orchestra, with solos by Susan York and Donald Cairns. The program features carol medleys and familiar tunes, followed by a combined finale, with audience singalongs.
The Junior League of Tarrytown staged Little Red Riding Hood at the Ardsley Country Club last Friday. Mrs. J Ellis Grell Dobbs Ferry wrote and assisted by Mrs John Meloney Hastings and Mrs Kenneth Bamusch Hastings. A December 16 performance at the Hudson River Speech Center Christmas Party is planned at the League Clubhouse in Tarrytown. The Placement Committee offered a humorous skit on jobs with members William Fanning Jr Briarcliff Edward Doonan Tivington and William Camroth of Tarrytown in the roles.
The Irv ington branch of the Women's Auxiliary of the Phelps Memorial Hospital held its annual meeting at St. Barnabas Parish House. Plans discussed for auxiliary day on January 6 with hospital tours and refreshments for invited members. Nominating committee elected Mrs Addison Hastings as vice president Mrs Archibald Malock as recording secretary Mrs E R Lies as treasurer Mrs H McIntyre Grout as assistant treasurer and Mrs John Waterbury as corresponding secretary.
The Friday December 16 item lists basketball at Katonah High School Gymnasium. On Saturday December 17 activities include a senior dance in the high school auditorium and a Firemen's Christmas Party at Town Hall.
The Ford Foundation announced a grant of 18200 to the Dobbs Ferry Hospital under a program to improve hospital services but not for current operating expenses. The amount was based on patient days and births, with 96786 in contributions this year. Community supporters from Ardsley Dobbs Ferry Hastings on Hudson and Irvington boosted the hospital drive, showing local commitment to keep the Dobbs Ferry Hospital as a community necessity.
A Christmas candlelight worship service will be held at the Irvington Presbyterian Church on Sunday Jallemoon at 415. Two Irvington boys James Grieco of Taster Road and Rocco Venditto of 19 South Bekar Street were sworn into the United States Army by Major E N Kaplan at New York City Main Recruiting Station. Grieco will study a laboratory procedure course at Field Medical School Fort Sam Houston Texas while Venditto begins radar repair training at Signal School Fort Monmouth New Jersey.
Chief Habermehl of the Irvington Police Department was taken to Dobbs Ferry Hospital after a heart condition worsened on Sunday night. He underwent tests under Dr William Roane and is reported resting with an unclear hospital stay ahead.
The Greenburgh Town Board adjourned after criticism of the Planning Board’s authority on a rezoning bid from two clients to change three parcels on Central Avenue, Hartsdale, from apartments to commercial. A public hearing was requested, with residents’ safety concerns noted for February. The board withheld a decision, while a related Cross Roads Farm petition for a DOBBS Ferry Hartsdale commercial market faced proposed parking requirements.

Sunnyside Federal Savings and Loan Association Directors vote to pay two regular semi annual dividends at two percent each on all investment and savings accounts. Net earnings for the half year exceed 100000, with about 35 percent of net income to transfer to reserve funds. Total assets near 5.5 million as of December 31 marking 25 years of operation. A diner celebrating the 25th anniversary will be hosted by Fred A. Niles with a board appointment for planning. Alarm system installation authorized connecting Irvington Police Headquarters at Crown Hall.

Church school children directed by Mrs Herbert Vannatta will sing Away in a Manger and Come Sor The minister will recount the Christmas story with Margaret Eggleston and the Patchwork Quilt. The Church School Christmas party will follow in the social hall from to four o'clock on Wednesday December 21 with carols games refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. Church School session at ten o'clock Sunday morning December 18 asks members to bring gifts for Five Points Mission in New York City.
The Hudson River Committee for Planned Parenthood met at Br. John DeGraff’s home on Wednesday. Members present included Chairman Mrs Barton Eddison and attendees Mrs Henry Aranow Jr, Mrs G O Bailey, Mrs Bernard Barnes, Ernest Bower, Mrs Cyrus Col Mes, Frank H Elis, Mrs W J Harward, Mrs Brooks Jubring, Mrs Ernest F Rump, Mrs A O Van Suetendael, and Mrs Wobert Waldie.
Mayor Rosvel Hannan leads a town hall Christmas event with 8 carols and brownies, featuring a lighted tree ceremony. Attendees receive caribou treats while volunteers decorate windows and paint the entrance. Organizers include Gordon Gu Walter Mebrde and the Mingway Department with Mrs Lewis Strat overseeing.
Patrolman John Paton of Westchester County Parkway Police and all defendants in the alleged courtesy card conspiracy were acquitted by a Brooklyn Court of Special Sessions after a four week trial. The court found no evidence of a real conspiracy or improper charges against the officers and noted the issuing organization’s address on the card.
Ida Dearman Terhune widow of Edwin W. Terhune died unexpectedly at the Masonic Home Jim Utsav after five years residence. She was 75 and formerly of Irvington. services were held at Edwards Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry with a funeral service led by Rev. George M. Whitmore. She was daughter of Henry Clay Dearman and Phoebe Dearman, born November 30 1880, long active in Irvington life and church music.
Greenburgh Town Council pared approximately 350 090 from the tentative 1958 budget after a public hearing. Villages see a two cent per thousand reduction, unincorporated area 38 cents, with final net village budget 125 604 and unincorporated area 786 387. Cuts touched planning boards, civil defense, and assessor expenses. the overall tax rate rises to 1028 per thousand.
Santa Claus will visit the Ervington Fire Department on Saturday December 17 at 2 pm. He will arrive at the Town Hall to greet children up to 12 years old and firemen, and an afternoon of merriment will follow with gifts and candy from Santa. The Social Committee led by Fred Whipple and others organized the program for the event.
The Irvington PTA conic of the American Field Service met Friday to interview students applying for a trip abroad under the APS program. Committee members include Mrs Edward MM Carney Mrs John Evatt and Mrs Carroll Puciato.
