Cascara Bark To Market In Pacific Northwest Trade
Portland Perling begins in country with first 1911 peel prices at 5 cents a pound, highest start in years. Several tons received in Portland as inquiries flood from eastern manufacturers and foreign interests while outsiders hold back orders. Prospects for a normal peel across the Pacific Northwest are mixed due to land settlements reducing bark yields in some districts.

Elgin Crops and Fruit Show Strong Prospects
Higin Rains in the last two weeks promise record crops in this region. Timothy and alfalfa are in good shape and grain crops look strong. Fall wheat is rank enough to allow a hay harvest to support grain. Some farmers have cut wheat, others will soon. Apple, pear, cherry, and small fruit crops appear full.

Plant Spruce and Larch in Burned-Over Wallowa Range
Forestry Department crews under Baker R M Evans planted about 200 acres near Medical Springs with Norway spruce and European larch to repopulate land scorched by last summer’s fires. An anti-squirrel method using poisoned grain was tested to protect seeds and saplings. The Wallowa reserve may be divided, with a new district headquarters anticipated in the city.
