County farmers will visit the Agricultural College on Saturday June 17 for an enlightening tour. The Polk County Farmers' Union sponsors the trip, with lessons on wheat and alfalfa, crop rotation, lime effects, and horticultural demonstrations.
A Dallas Observer item notes confusion over a tax on admissions. Clyde G. Huntley explains exemptions for religious educational or charitable groups and others. tickets must show tax status. Officials warn about penalties up to 1000 dollars for noncompliance and urge proper affidavit filings in advance.
The affidavit claiming exemption was not filed and exemption obtained before ticket sales. Mr. Huntley calls on event organizers to apply to his office or district offices in Hugene Pendleton Salem or Medford for the correct affidavit forms.
The Oregon Extension Service notes a 1917 Oregon Supreme Court ruling makes farm owners subject to the Employers' Liability Act similar to hazardous trades. It explains workers may sue despite any contributory negligence, while the Industrial Accident Commission provides workers medical care and compensation funded by payroll deductions, with benefits to widows and children and relief to dependents.
