ICG Slashes Hyde Park to Loop Service Starting July

Illinois Central Gulf will cut commuter service from Hyde Park to the Loop beginning July 1 with 40 percent fewer morning trains from the 53rd Street station. Other Hyde Park stops will see similar cuts and nonrush intervals on the South Chicago line drop to every 30 minutes. The railroad cites suburban flight as the reason while promising improved overall efficiency.

Walker and Republicans clash over tax plan for Chicago transit

Governor Walker faces a tough choice as Republicans push a plan to create a Chicago regional transportation authority funded by a local sales tax while Downstate Illinois would receive a half cent tax cut. Walker argues the RTA should use specialized levies not a general tax and warns the plan could cost the state about 165 million dollars annually.
