Conference opposes DUR slate in Hyde Park CCC race
The Hyde Park Kenwood Community Conference opposes the Department of Urban Renewal slate for Hyde Park Conservation Community Council seats. A special committee may sue to stop the slate. Of 15 nominees, seven live in East Hyde Park and nine are white, with five black, one Oriental. the group argues the slate lacks a true cross section by sex age income housing and geography.

Do they walk or don't they walk Merchants want foot patrolman
Merchants west of Dorchester on 53rd Street dispute patrol methods with the 21st District. Commander J O Grady says beat 2119 has had walking patrols since June 18 from Lake Park to Woodlawn, while storekeepers claim officers on foot never pass their doors. Patrolmen Smeal and Zablock report walking 53rd to Ellis Avenue on June 21. A storefront petition, started after burglaries in early June, urged walking patrols as a crime preventive measure, with store owners arguing car patrols only react after crimes occur. Commander Grady says an extra walking officer was assigned to 53rd Street.
