Locofoco denunciations and Polk in the 1840s tariff debate
In the Rochester Democrat reprint of a Cin. Gus. letter, hostility to British influence and a Pro-Tariff stance are urged. The writer attacks Locofoco reformers and warns against Polk aligned with Southern foes, arguing patriotism and Union loyalty favor protection and American prosperity over reliance on England. A list of 380 former Locofocos is noted amid ongoing defections.
