Ecumenical Spirit at Pleasant Valley Church Draws Faiths
Rev. Leonard H. Evans leads Pleasant Valley Church which welcomes worshippers from many faiths. The 184-member congregation reports 309 average morning and 285 evening attendees, with past highs of 532 and 440. The church emphasizes love over proselytizing and tapes services for members, funded by budget and donor funds totaling about 55,000 yearly. Evans describes a personal mystical experience and a shift to a living, love-centered faith. The church, formerly Evangelical United Brethren, built its present facilities on Pleasant Valley Road after losing assets during its merger. The pastor and two lay leaders plan services as the church remains independent.
